We will be taking on a mutant cub in the recently announced title of The Cub
If you have ever wondered how things would have ended in The Jungle Book if there would have also been an apocalypse too, let me introduce you to The Cub. This is the next title in the line of games from Demagog Studio and Untold Tales that is going to be giving us something along those lines. No, we are not going to see all of those classic characters in a Mad Max setting, even if that would be cool, but The Cub will tell us all a story that follows those lines but the boy we are guiding is a mutant left behind on a rotting planet. Now the ultrarich that abandoned the planet are back to find out how they can use this youngling to their advantage and find out how he has become immune to the perils of the world out there. Dark and bleak, certainly, but it does sound like a fun story to experience.
While the story for The Cub does sound entertaining on its own, the game will also house some of those classic gameplay elements that we generally have loved over the years. The game is a platformer that will have us running through various events that look like they were pulled from classic game titles like The Jungle Book, but also with their own fun too. The Cub will also house some fun hand-drawn looks to the game with some of the music definitely aiding in the tone and themes we will get to experience out there. have a gander at the latest trailer for the game just below and see if it will be gracing your gaming library in the not too distant future.
The Cub — Announcement
The Jungle Book meets armageddon. The Cub is a story-rich, old-school tough platformer inspired by SEGA classics but built for today. Platform parkour through the remains of humanity as smooth apocalypse-wave tunes and stories reveal more. Created by the minds behind Golf Club: Wasteland to further the stories from the wasteland of tomorrow.
Coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
The game is inspired by the classic, old-school tough SEGA games of the 90s — The Jungle Book, Aladdin, Lion King — but with modern twists and ideas. Platform parkour through the remains of humanity and a world of urban ruin peppered with references as to how humanity might one day perish. Crumbling brutalist tower blocks and abandoned genetics labs, depleted chemical mines, and overgrown battlefields — each level has a story to tell. Crack environmental puzzles that keep you guessing, and stay one step ahead of the wicked humans back from Mars that are pursuing you in a twisted apocalyptic safari hunt.
Earth fell to ruins after multiple wars, rampant inequality, and ecological disaster. In the final months, the ultra-rich fled to Mars leaving billions behind to die. A new ecosystem feeding off the chemical waste left behind evolves without humans. But a few mutant children who have developed immunity and the skills to survive here still roam. You are one such child. Years pass and those on Mars venture back to Earth. After spotting a small mutant child, a hunt ensues. This sets off a journey of escape, exploration, and discovery through the urban ruins of humanity coupled with frantic cat and mouse chases.
Keeping you company once again is the next evolution of Radio Nostalgia From Mars, the custom apocalypse wave soundtrack that’ll crash land into your psyche. Listen to thought-provoking survivor stories from the few ultrarich living on Mars, while a smooth-voiced radio DJ keeps the show moving with a collection of chill apocalypse-wave tunes and a few cryptic announcements that paint a not so pretty picture of life on Mars.
Meticulously drawn and stylized to look like the classic animated films of the late 90s — Atlantis, Tarzan, Road To El Dorado — while also taking a page from Samurai Jack’s creator Genndy Tartakovsky’s critically acclaimed series, Primal.
How are you feeling about The Cub as we get to see here and does it fit the setting it is sounding like? Does the platforming sound like it will be hitting those nostalgia vibes or could it be leading us down a different path here? Would you want to see a post-apocalyptic version of The Jungle Book or should we move to a different title to go with that? Let us all know down in the comments and then feel free to discuss it all as you so wish. When more for The Cub is out there, we will share it with you here and on our social accounts. Please keep checking in for all of that and much more that is still to come out there.
