Virtua Fighter Puts Up A Fight With Some New Gameplay Concepts

Virtua Fighter — Gameplay Concept

The new Virtua Fighter project had a bit of some concept footage out there to show off how the new Virtua Fighter could play

The gameplay teases keep on rolling out for the upcoming Virtua Fighter title and the latest comes right out of CES 2025. It was something that SEGA was helping to show off the power of some of the new NVIDIA hardware but gives us a solid concept of how they are going to move forward with the new game. Something that looks and feels vastly different than what we have seen in the past for Virtua Fighter, as long as they stick to it and keep the characters looking and feeling about the same. That will be the trick, but for now, we can see just how they want to push forward with the IP and bring it all into the latest generation without being another remake or remaster of something from the past.

It is a short and sweet look at this new Virtua Fighter project, but something that hits home just as well. It does look like the team is trying to go a bit more cinematic with the fights in the game instead of the fast-paced cartoonish fighting we have had in the past. None of the moves here feel too exaggerated and we get to see some true repercussions from hits and throws. However, this could be a bit jarring for the old Virtua Fighter and gamers in general if we have to watch other characters get tossed around and then have to wait for them to get back up and dust themselves off. This is just a concept, though, so the final version could make this all flow perfectly for a fighting game and then a bit different once we start to get the different characters in the IP back in full swing.

Virtua Fighter — Gameplay Concept

The pre-development gameplay for the new Virtua Fighter project, a new entry in the storied fighting game franchise from SEGA. This video was presented at the Consumer Electronics Show during the keynote speech by NVIDIA’s founder and CEO, Jensen Huang. More about the game will be shown in a future Virtua Fighter Direct in early 2025.

Are you a little shocked by this footage for the new Virtua Fighter project or are you glad to see something new on the way? Will it always be this cinematic in the fights of it all or will it only be for certain actions that go down during a match? Would you want to have a fighting game take the cinematic approach or will you always want the cartoony style where no one ever needs to take a beat before heading back into the fight? Fight it all out in the comments below and try to keep the discussion civil. We are going to have much more for the Virtua Fighter IP, certainly, so please keep on checking in for all of that and everything else that we can muster up out there. I am sure you will love it all and be ready for whatever is on the way in the end.
