The first gameplay for Still Wakes The Deep dropped out there to take us further into the depths Still Wakes The Deep is going to
The question about how life would be on a drilling platform when all manner of horrors start to happen is getting a bit further answered in Still Wakes The Deep. This is a title that The Chinese Room announced a while back before the later and bigger announcement. A title that is on the way to the Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC in 2024. A title that did not have much to offer before with just a basic announcement to be had. Now, though, we have the first bit of gameplay to look at for Still Wakes The Deep to show us all how the horrors of all of this are coming to life. Maybe in something that is a bit more than a horror walking simulation too.
This new footage for Still Wakes The Deep is something that is supposed to be split into two different parts of the game. The first part shows off the dangers we will have to navigate on the drilling rig when we are getting from place to place. Seeing as the whole thing is coming apart, things are going to be a little rough to traverse all of that. The second part of the gameplay shows off how terrifying and cramped some of the inner parts of Still Wakes The Deep are going to look and feel. Not to mention that we are going to be chased by a few terrible things in the mix too. So we will need to run, swim, and hide as needed in the mix. Sadly, it does not look like there is much in the way of being able to fight back, but that is still not what the developer is known for yet, so it gets a bit of a pass in that regard.
Still Wakes The Deep — First Look At Gameplay
The Chinese Room and publisher Secret Mode have released the first gameplay video for narrative horror Still Wakes The Deep, which debuted in the Xbox Partner Preview.
This first peek at Still Wakes The Deep in action offers a breathless look at the game’s unique setting: the Beira D oil rig situated off the coast of Scotland.
Split into two parts, the gameplay video picks up after a catastrophic event has rocked the drilling platform, with protagonist Caz McLeary trapped beneath the crumbling exterior of the Beira D and desperately seeking a pathway to safety. Viewers are then whisked forward into the claustrophobic bowels of the oil rig, where Caz must negotiate crawlspaces and brave flooded passageways to avoid detection from an unknowable horror that’s come aboard…
Still Wakes The Deep is due to release in 2024 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. It will also be available with Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
Still Wakes The Deep is a return to the first-person narrative horror genre from The Chinese Room, creator of critically acclaimed games such as Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs, Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture, Dear Esther, and the highly-anticipated Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2.
In Still Wakes The Deep, the player assumes the role of an off-shore oil rig worker, fighting for his life through a vicious storm, perilous surroundings, and the dark, freezing North Sea waters. All lines of communication have been severed. All exits are gone. All that remains is to face the unknowable horror that’s come aboard.
I am curious to see how all of this plays out in practice for Still Wakes The Deep when the game comes out there. It feels as if we might have two different stories playing out at the same time but this could all just be to show off the different style of gameplay we will have in the game. As I said, Still Wakes The Deep still looks and feels like a glorified walking simulation game with a few other ways to get around mixed in. This is still early footage of the game and things could shift when we see some truly live footage out there. I just have a feeling that Still Wakes The Deep is going to be another in the same line we have had from the developer all to keep the next big title feeling like a true deviation from what they are normally known for.
Did you enjoy what you had to see here for Still Wakes The Deep or did it feel like many other games out there? Do you think we will get a way to fight back in the game or will it be all about the running and hiding still? Is this a cosmic horror title or will it be something about the crew going mad and trying to kill each other instead? Wander down to the comment section to discuss all of this and everything else you might want to talk about. There is more to come for Still Wakes The Deep, so please keep on coming back to check all of that out. I know I am still curious about the title and we will hopefully see a whole lot more in the coming weeks to flesh it all out.
