We Had A Chance To Sit Down With The Team Of Mortal Kombat 1 During SDCC And Have Some New Details For Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns To Share
A big splash was made during SDCC this year when not only new characters for Mortal Kombat 1 were announced, but a whole new expansion to the story with Khaos Reigns. There was also that massive announcement that NetherRealm Studios is bringing us all Animalities again to the IP after such a long wait. All fun little things we had a chance to see in the trailers and press releases we had out of the convention this year. That was not fully enough for some of us, so we took to a sit-down interview with the team and voices behind Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns to get a little more on what is coming to the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC on September 24th. Including a nice little bit with the man himself, Ed Boon.
Speaking of, here we have our first bit with Ed Boon, the co-creator of Mortal Kombat, and head behind how it is evolving with each iteration. We all had a chance to ask a few things about the new characters coming and the guest characters that were selected. A nice little bit where it sounds like fan speculation can lead to bringing some of the characters to life. Also, a nice little bit of extra with Ed diving into the legacy and fun of bringing Animalities back to Mortal Kombat after such a long time out of the IP in a direct way. Have a watch and see what else was learned directly from the man himself.
Mortal Kombat 1 — Interview With Ed Boon (Co-Creator Mortal Kombat)
During SDCC this year, we managed to have a sit down with a few colleagues and Ed Boon (Co-Creator of Mortal Kombat). We dig into many of the new aspects and characters coming to the game with the new Khaos Reigns expansion on September 24th for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC. This would be the new Mortal Kombat 1 characters, guest characters, and Animalities that will be coming along with some other fun thoughts and stories about how things came to light for all of this.
If that was not enough for you for Mortal Kombat 1, here we get to have a bit with two of the voices for the new versions of characters being introduced. Those are the new version of Noob Saibot and the upgrade version of Sektor. Not the one that is already in the game as a Kameo but the one that is here after all of the timeline changes for Mortal Kombat 1 that have gone down. It is a fun and interesting interview to hear how they were asked to make the characters their own and bring us something to further fight with as the story spirals out into the future. A whole lot of fun in the mix of all of this.
Mortal Kombat 1 — Interview With Kaiji Tang & Erika Ishii (Voice Actors Mortal Kombat 1)
During SDCC this year, we managed to have a sit down with a few colleagues, Kaiji Tang (Noob Saibot’s Voice in Mortal Kombat 1), and Erika Ishii (Sektor’s Voice in Mortal Kombat 1). We dive into how the actors bring the characters to life again and make them their own while still giving way to the past versions. Along with all of the other little tidbits we could get out of them before the full launch of the Khaos Reigns expansion. Sadly, the Lin Kuei did not all get French accents…
Lastly, we have a solid sit down with more of the team from NetherRealm Studios and what they are looking to further bring into Mortal Kombat 1 with the story and cinematics that are in the game. Not to mention a bit of the explanation of why things are the way they are in the game’s world and some of the other things we should expect from the Antagonist in this portion of the story. It was a fun interview to have for Mortal Kombat 1, but I will warn you that the audio is a little wonky. This was not due to technical issues but due to a level of unprofessionalism with various other media outlets that were not at our table. Apologies for that and we did our best with what we had out of all of this. We only wish that the others would have given the same courtesy we gave them but humans are the worst.
Mortal Kombat 1 — Interview With Joshua Slingerland & Marty Stoltz (NetherRealm)
During SDCC this year, we managed to have a sit down with a few colleagues, Marty Stoltz (NetherRealm Cinematic Director), and Joshua Slingerland (NetherRealm Principal Cinematic Artist). Here we get to dig into more of the story that is coming in Khaos Reigns, the new Animalities and how they are coming back, and some of the other technical side of the game that the team has been working on to make it the next best fighting game out there. Even if we did not get a full answer as to what other Kameos we should expect to see too. Not to mention the many questions I asked that were not allowed to be answered yet.
Are you further amped up to see these characters in Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns and the return of Animalities now? Do you expect us to see even more of the characters that we all want in the game given that the team is always asking for the same ones too? What do you think the T-1000’s Animality will be in the game and what others do you think will be harder to figure out? Head down to the comments to discuss all of that and everything else we have to share for this. We hope you enjoyed more of our interviews out of SDCC and for Mortal Kombat 1, and we aim to bring even more of these in the future. Just be sure to follow along here and on our channels to make sure you are up-to-date on all of that. You will not want to miss any of it going forward.
