New footage for Returnal is here to show off some of the new areas in Returnal that seem to be shifting in some interesting ways
So far we have seen some interesting areas and lands we will be exploring in Returnal and now we have one more look at how this will all be going on April 30th. Things look to be very alien out there, which is the setting, but there does seem to be something bigger going on out there. Kind of the way that Housemarque has been going with it all so far. If you look back at everything we have had for Returnal up to now that is. This is why it is nice to be able to sit back and enjoy one more trailer to try to figure out a few more things in the game. That or just see how pretty it will be when it hits the PS5.
It is interesting to see how some of the roguelike elements could be working here in Returnal with how the environment will be a little the same but still come up in the dialog of the game. This is something that seems to poke through at the end of the video here as we see similar architecture out there but some changes to all of the other elements all around. I think it will keep the game feeling interesting more than frustrating as I generally feel for roguelikes. It also seems like there is going to be something much more sinister going on in Returnal than we might even be thinking for now. I would not be surprised to see this take a hard shift away from the Sci-Fi and maybe into a horror…
Returnal — Atropos
Break the cycle of chaos on an always-changing alien planet.
After crash-landing on this shape-shifting world, Selene must search through the barren landscape of an ancient civilization for her escape. Isolated and alone, she finds herself fighting tooth and nail for survival. Again and again, she’s defeated—forced to restart her journey every time she dies.
Through relentless roguelike gameplay, you’ll discover that just as the planet changes with every cycle, so do the items at your disposal. Every loop offers new combinations, forcing you to push your boundaries and approach combat with a different strategy each time.
Brought to life by stunning visual effects, the dark beauty of the decaying world around you is packed with explosive surprises. From high stakes, bullet hell-fueled combat, to visceral twists and turns through stark and contrasting environments. You’ll explore, discover, and fight your way through an unforgiving journey, where mystery stalks your every move.
Designed for extreme replayability, the procedural world of Returnal invites you to dust yourself off in the face of defeat and take on new, evolving challenges with every rebirth.
Are you still amped up for Returnal to launch here or do you need more to be able to form your opinion around before launch? Do you think that we will see some different horror elements mixed in or will it all be explained off with the usual Sci-Fi tropes? Do you think this will all be used to explain the roguelike elements in the story or is that just a nice little nod to the players here? Let us all know what you are thinking down in the comments and then feel free to discuss it all as you wish. If there is more for Returnal out there, we will share it all with you. Be sure to keep checking back in for all of this and much more.
