Another addition to the franchise is announced with Skylanders Imaginators and it aims to let us craft our own Skylanders just for the new fight
It’s another new years and it would be complete without an announcement like Skylanders Imaginators as another new title to add into the toys-to-life genre. As if Activision and Toys For Bob haven’t raked in enough money on this property so far and had other companies try their hand in the same way. Of course as they usually do, it also looks like Skylanders Imaginators is bringing yet another new feature to the genre in the fact that you get to design your own Skylander to play in the game. Well design to a level of degree at least.
In Skylanders Imaginators there will be a few new characters and variations added in just as there have been in the past. The big thing here is that the “hero” toys are basic “empty shells” where the player gets to build the virtual representation of the character and that is what brings it from system to system. While it would be awesome to mix in some fun 3D printing abilities for the franchise we will have to just settle for the loads of digital customization that we will get. At least this will give us all some extra level of creativity to bring to the table.
Skylanders Imaginators — Reveal
In addition to allowing us to build our own Skylander with the Creation Crystal it looks like Skylanders Imaginators is also bringing with it ten new Battle Classes for us to craft the characters with. A few of them are Knight, Sorcerer, Bowslinger, and Brawler and each have their own cool little tricks to bring to the party. If only we could customize out the Creation Crystal to whatever element we wanted then we could have complete control over the classes. Sadly that is where the new cost comes in as each Creation Crystal will have a specific element forced but not the class.
As of right now Skylanders Imaginators is slated for release on October 16th for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Wii U. As with all of the other titles in the franchise there will be a “Starter Pack” for $74.99 USD that will come with one Creation Crystal, two of the new Skylanders characters, a Portal of Power, and of course the game. It’s most likely safe to assume all of the other variants from the past will be heading out for the title too.
What do you think about Skylanders Imaginators now that it has had its full reveal? Do you think we are one step closer to being able to just 3D print out the toys we want to craft or will that be just too expensive to be viable? Do you think this is just the last step for the franchise and again there will be nowhere to go for here? Let us know what you are thinking and discuss in the comments below.
