Get Ready To Trust No One In The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020 — Official Announcement

The official look at Directive 8020 is finally here with Directive 8020 taking the Dark Pictures Anthology more Sci-Fi

After a solid tease of things a long while ago, we finally have something more to look at for Directive 8020. This would be the next story in The Dark Pictures Anthology that Supermassive Games has been working on in the past. We had a tease that showed that the game would be leaving the more supernatural element of horror in this next wave and going a bit more Sci-Fi. Something that strikes home well after the release of Alien Romulus and the many other titles going that way. Now, we get to see just what Directive 8020 is going to give us when the game lands on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2025. Still a bit to wait, but it is looking like it will be fully worth it.

While it looks like Directive 8020 might not be connected in a true story sense to the other titles, it does look like it will keep much of the same gameplay as was built by the studio. In the story, we are going to be taking up the roles of the crew on the spacecraft Cassiopeia. A craft that not only hosts our protagonists but also a shapeshifting alien that is looking to help them end with all of their living. From there, in Directive 8020, we will have to make all of the hard choices to try to keep ourselves alive and maybe choose to infect Earth with this organism or not. A tale as old as time if I do say so myself. Here is a look at the official reveal of this chapter in the anthology series. It is short and sweet, indeed.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020 — Official Announcement

Earth is dying and humanity is running out of time. 12 light years from home, Tau Cetif offers a small sliver of hope. When the colony ship Cassiopeia crash lands on the planet, its crew soon realize they are far from being alone.

Hunted by an alien organism capable of mimicking its prey, the crew of the Cassiopeia must outwit their pursuers to make it home alive. As they battle to survive, they are confronted with the hardest choice of all: to save themselves, they must risk the lives of everyone on Earth.

In space, death takes many forms.

Key Features:

  • Next-Gen Cinematic Survival Horror: Experience immersive cinematic storytelling and edge-of-your-seat horror on a deep space mission to save humanity.
  • Real-Time Alien Threats: Evade a deadly alien threat that roams the dark corridors of the ship, intent on eradicating human life. Overcome your enemies using improvised weapons, lightning reflexes, and stealth.
  • Trust No One: Encounter an alien lifeform that perfectly imitates its prey. Years of training and trust are lost among the crew when their enemy hides in plain sight. Who is human and who is not? Your choices are now more important than ever!

Well, this does seem like a normal Sci-Fi horror story that we get out there all the time, only with Directive 8020 allowing us to play it instead of just watch it. That is not a knock on it at all, as it is a story that does leave many with some horrors to contemplate in the vast nothingness out there. As well as lets us play with the fear of the unknown and untrusted. That is why films like The Thing and Alien thrive out there. That and video games like Dead Space and Prey do so well. Dropping us into another massive story, as I am sure Directive 8020 will do, feels like a homerun and the small trailer does back that up a bit. Here is to hoping it does not drop next to other big titles that might dwarf it when 2025 comes around.

Is this about the story you were expecting from the first big tease of Directive 8020 or is it different than expected? Will it be able to stand out from the other titles mentioned or will it be a similar story to all of those? Will this even tie into all of the other titles in the anthology or will it be a new chapter for the studio to go down instead? Head down to the comments to discuss it all and everything else that is going on. We will have more for Directive 8020 as it all flows out there, so please keep on checking back for all of those updates and many, many more.
