Mortal Kombat is back on again, with a new red band trailer out there for the upcoming Mortal Kombat II movie
The fight is carrying on with a new look at Mortal Kombat II. Well, more of a first true look at the upcoming film for us all, and with all of the over-the-top violence in the mix too. All so we can finally see the full tournament begin and the rest of the story from the previous Mortal Kombat movie carry forward. This time, with Karl Urban as Johnny Cage and various other characters showing back up again. Along with many, many fighters in the mix, many more realms we are going to, and the various Fatalities that the IP has been known for getting a massive highlight in this new film. Have a look at the latest for the film and get ready to see it in theaters on October 24th. Maybe, also out at SDCC if we are all lucky.
The new trailer is definitely Johnny Cage forward, and it feels like he is going to be the audience surrogate in Mortal Kombat II. Something that will ground fans even more into the new version of things and get us back on track with a live-action showing of the IP. Especially as we are getting Shao Kahn, Kitana, Jade, and Baraka in the mix out there. Not that the past characters were not fun, but it is certainly going to be deeper into the Mortal Kombat lore. More so, as we are getting some truly video game-accurate versions of the characters, too. Speaking of, to further celebrate the following trailer for the film, MK1 now has a few new character skins based on the live-action counterparts we are getting. This time, the fan favorite champions—now joined by Johnny Cage himself—are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds-barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.
Karl Urban stars as Johnny Cage, alongside Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, with Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion.
Director Simon McQuoid returns to helm the follow-up to his explosive 2021 cinematic adventure, from a screenplay by Jeremy Slater, based on the videogame created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. The film is produced by Todd Garner, James Wan, Toby Emmerich, E. Bennett Walsh, and McQuoid, and executive produced by Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Slater, and Lawrence Kasanoff.
Joining McQuoid behind the camera are director of photography Stephen F. Windon, production designer Yohei Taneda, editor Stuart Levy, and costume designer Cappi Ireland, with casting by Rich Delia and music by Benjamin Wallfisch.
New Line Cinema Presents an Atomic Monster/Broken Road Production, a Fireside Films Production, Mortal Kombat II. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, only in theaters and IMAX across North America on October 24, 2025, and internationally beginning 22 October, 2025.
