E3 2016 Impressions — Mafia 3

Mafia 3 — E3 2016 Gameplay

While at E3 I was able to see Mafia 3 in a more intimate setting than just a trailer. Here’s my take on Mafia 3

Here we go with one of the larger titles that 2K Games was pimping out at E3 and now we have a solid look at Mafia 3 in terms of world and gameplay. Gameplay that was shown off by none other than the devs over at Hangar 13 in the mix of a time jump back to the era that the game takes place in. Of course there is a whole lot more to go into for Mafia 3, as with all of the other games out there, but this is the best look we have until October 7th when it finally lands on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Something that I know we are all looking forward to in one way or another.

Unlike the other Impressions articles we have here, there is going to be a bit of a twist here. In fact you can see and hear the literal same showing of Mafia 3 that many stood in line to see in a made up theater just for the show. I won’t go into much more on all of the mechanics directly as you can see it all below but my commentary will follow so you can get the impressions mixed in after you have your own for the game. Have a look at what was shown for Mafia 3 at E3 2016 right now.

Mafia 3 — E3 2016 Gameplay

It looks like the open world of Mafia 3 is going to be a lot more vast than we can expect given by all of the cuts that had to happen during the travel sequences. There will be some sort of fast travel system for ease but it looks like Hangar 13 has crammed in even more than we could have expected for this title. This should lead to all kinds of hours of fun mixed into all of the brutal gun and gameplay coming with Lincoln as he goes on his rampage.

A new feature that I love here for Mafia 3 has to be the sit downs. Everything else just kind of seems business as usual but here we get to split up territory to the three we have on staff. It looks like the more we give the different the characters not only act but also look. I am a bit curious to see if there is a way to give nothing at all and make enemies of everyone or if there is a perfect balance to get all the cash you could ever want and make them all the same level of happy. I just know it is cool that it isn’t only dialog that happens when the sit down doesn’t go the way people expected.

Lastly, and this is a personal thing, is the fact that you can now call in favors and weapons drops in Mafia 3. I hated having to drive around looking for a gun shop to resupply and stock up before. It also makes perfect sense that Lincoln can call in the help of his underlings when needed. Outside of that what are they really doing except making money. It adds that little extra flavor to the whole mafia mentality that works perfect here. I am curious to see how things change based on turf wars in terms of price and availability but I guess we’ll have to wait for the full game to see how that all plays out.

Hopefully you enjoyed what you saw for Mafia 3 as much as I did here. I know I fell in love with the franchise a little late in the game but given where 2K Games has taken their other IPs in the same vein I fully embrace what we have here. October 7th can’t get here fast enough and neither can the gator bites that I enjoyed ever so much out there.
