Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss Offers An Overview For What Happened In The Abyss

Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss — Gameplay Overview

Get ready for the gameplay of Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, as we get an overview of it all and how Cthulhu will mess with our minds

With April 16th rushing up on us all quickly, it is finally time to take the dive into the actual gameplay we will experience in Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss. We all know that Big Bad Wolf is giving us an underwater station facility to move about as things have gone wrong. There will also be an AI companion in the game to help log all of this, which will come in handy when the madness that all Cthulhu games have starts to spread. We have not seen how all of that will function along with the investigation aspect that has been teased along the way. Well, now we have all of that in a nice little package so we can see just how Agent Noah might be able to make it through the horrors, or how fast Noah will succumb to it all.

As it looks, the AI companion in Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is going to play a larger role than we might have expected. Mostly in the fact that we will use Key to scan pretty much everything we come across in the game, categorize it, show how things are linked, as well as help us track down other things like it. A solid little database that will help us along the way, and not something that will just be our own little hype robot in our pockets. Rather cool and interesting, even if the hype would help when facing off against all of the creatures that may or may not be hiding in the depths out there. I say it that way, as Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss will be using the “corruption” in our brain not only as a way to weaken Noah if it gets too strong, but also to explain some of the horrors that will be hallucinated along the way in the game. As the following footage seems to imply, sometimes these creatures will only be in Noah’s head and not truly lurking around the maps.

The character of Key, your AI assistant, was designed to have a unique and complex personality. To achieve this, Key is brought to life by the incredible performance of a real and talented human voice actor, whose work is central to the game’s atmosphere.

The trailer highlights several mechanics:

  • Clue Analysis: Analyze or handle an object to find clues and advance the investigation. Each analysis teaches the player more about an object’s composition and unlocks new frequencies for the sonar, allowing them to track other elements of similar composition.
  • Energy: Analysis consumes energy. The player will need to use this resource carefully; if they run out and analyze objects, it will increase their corruption gauge. To recover energy, strange organic resources scattered here and there must be collected.
  • The Vault: This database gathers all discovered clues and documents. It is an essential tool for solving puzzles by linking clues together to progress in the investigation.
  • The Sonar: This multitasking tool allows progress in the dark by revealing hidden passages. The sonar can track discovered frequencies to find new clues by following certain leads. It also allows the player to reveal the invisible.
  • Artifacts And Upgrades: Discover strange artifacts that allow you to upgrade some of your investigation tools with the help of KEY. But beware, these upgrades are vulnerable: they can be corrupted and destroyed by the player’s choices.
  • Corruption Gauge: Every action or decision can increase the corruption level, gradually driving Noah into madness. This gauge will impact the course and conclusion of the investigation.

Are you ready to swim in all of the darkness that Cthulhu can bring to us in this game, or will it be another title that uses the mythos the same way we have experienced a number of times already? Will the creatures only be in our heads during the game, or will these scenes be used as good little jump scares to keep the tension high? Will Key be able to help us see what is truly real along the way, and will there be more of a detective mode aspect for it all as we dive deeper into the game? Let us answer all of these questions and more in the comment section that we have. We are hyped to get more for Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, and we will share it all with you here on the website.
