Another social deduction game, Mimic, has been showcased out there, with Mimic coming to us all before the end of the month
The era of the social deduction games keeps on going, as we have a new showcase for the upcoming Mimic for the PC. A title that is looking to open up on October 27th for those who are looking to give this one a bit of the Early Access fun and help Ryan Laley Games make a better title along the way. Not that there haven’t been good ones yet, but that is the case as it comes with Early Access titles. Mimic will be another, so you will need to gather up nine other friends to give this one a go when it happens. As long as you are looking to hunt down the imposter out there in the universe while it actively hunts you. A nice little twist to things than the normal guessing who is acting a little strange before you wake up and everyone is dead.
On the surface, Mimic sounds a lot like the gameplay we have had for titles like Among Us. We are all playing as a crew on a ship, where one of us is a corporate shill, another is the titular entity, and the rest of us are just out there doing our daily tasks to make sure we all survive and get home. Even if the Mimic in this case does get to be treated more like the Alien in Alien: Isolation than just a wolf in sheep’s clothing in the game. All of this is leaning on the fact that one of us wants the creature to succeed, to be the thing that makes it all stand apart from the other social deduction titles out there. Not a terrible twist, but not something that we haven’t seen in other games in the video game space or the board game space before. This one just happens to have some brutal and dark visuals to go along with all of the hunting down of the creature and making it out alive in the end of the game.
Mimic — Showcase
Mimic is a sci-fi horror title with a multiplayer core driven by social deduction, which means you’ll need to work together to determine the monster among you, while that same monster fights to remain anonymous.
You’ll board a ship with a crew of nine others, bearing tasks to repair that ship and make an escape. All the while, you’re being hunted by the Mimic, a shape-shifting and evolving biological terror. This is a player-controlled entity that can kill at will.
At the same time, another player is a ‘corporate shadow’, a character that’s nursing a secret agenda to sabotage the repair mission and render the Mimic victorious. But even they aren’t safe from the brutality of the Mimic.
Key Features of Mimic
- Endless Replayability: You can replay Mimic over and over again, thanks to the game’s core loop. The objectives are randomized, the agendas are spontaneous, and the unpredictable nature of literally every player makes for some incredibly emergent gameplay opportunities.
- Desperate Survival: You have no offensive capabilities whatsoever as a survivor, so if you come face-to-face with the Mimic, you’ll need to flee and hope you’re not caught, and that you can raise the alarm before you’re caught and end up bleeding out in a corridor somewhere, unable to warn anyone…
- Multiple Perspectives: In Among Us, you can be the crewmate, or you can be the imposter, but in Mimic, you’ll unlock a third, fresh perspective. It’s one that is more closely aligned with the Mimic, but even though that common ground is there, the corporate agent is still a potential victim.
Do you think that Mimic is going to be able to stand apart from all of the other titles that are like it out there? Will having the third option to play with be more or less fun when we get into the mix? How hard is it going to be to spot the creature in the game? How long will it take before players figure out how to work the system and ensure that they always come out on top? Let’s talk it all out in the comment section down the page here. We’ll have all that we can for Mimic in the coming weeks, so please keep checking the site for all of those updates. We’re also excited to see where all of this is going to go out there in the world, and we’ll have many more updates on our socials about it. Watch for all of that over there, so you can see when this one tries to stand out from everything else we have in the universe.
