The Sounds Of Madness Get Increasingly Haunting In Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss

Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss — Crafting The Sound Of Madness

Hear how the score and music in Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss were crafted and how it is going to bring Cthulhu further into our world

It is time to dive deeper into the world of Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, and now we are getting a bit of a taste of the music, score, and other audio that will bring the game to life. Something that Big Bad Wolf is trying to make extra haunting when we hear it, but also something that can help things stand on their own for us all. Not just in making the game better, but in ways that we will hear something and know it is linked to Cthulhu in the game. All while making the game feel like it is taking place in the timeline that it is, and not just another creepy score that many other titles in this mythos have gone with. A delicate balance we can sample now with the latest developer diary, or just wait to experience on April 16th when it all hits the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Either way, it is going to offer up a bit more of the cosmic horrors that many struggle to understand today.

As we go behind-the-scenes in the latest video here for Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, we get to see how the sound designer for the game originally reached out to the choirs and orchestras that we could have expected in the game. Most of this sounds just as we would have expected in other titles we have played, but this one takes place in a more modern and futuristic setting than many others. That is where Tina Guo was brought in to add a bit more of the electric cello into the mix to keep the levels of creepiness high, while also still giving it a unique sound. This is another aspect that we have to hear in the video. Certain beings are going to have some signature sounds to indicate a few things. Like Cthulhu will be linked to the carnyx, which was a horn that was used in battle to drive fear into the enemy forces. Something that plays very well with the concepts that the IP is playing around with. I am fully intrigued and cannot wait to hear more beyond the following video.
