Things Are Getting Rather Ill With A Look At The Upcoming Horror Of ILL

ILL — Official Reveal

Horror is going down a very Ill path out there with the latest video showcasing the gameplay of the upcoming ILL Game

Now that we have been able to get most of the cringy puns out of the way, here we go with an official look at the upcoming ILL. A title that Team Clout has been working on for a while now and one of the first titles that Mundfish Powerhouse will be releasing into the wild on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. While some might hear the name ILL and start to think it is something in the gangster community, this one is definitely not something from that slice of the world. It is a new horror title, and one that will be leaning extremely hard into the body horror of things out there. Not in the way we have seen with many of the titles as of late, as it is not bodycam, but in a way that feels like it could push the genres it is groping upon forward. That is a little bit on the harsh side, but still fitting with what we are all about to see in the game.

Before you dive into the video below for ILL, we need to touch on how it is looking to push things forward for the horror world. Mainly through aiming to make it as realistic as possible when it comes to the physics and looks of the body horror in the game. Along with that, this first-person title will be using binaural audio and a new, cutting-edge dismemberment system to give us more of a realistic feel to all of that. All of that and the setting of ILL taking us into a vast research fort where some sort of evil has been spawning all manner of things. Some very intense-looking creatures that will be pushing the limits of what we can get away with in the game, as we also need to survive and go through the usual resource management along the way. A massive undertaking, but when you look at the following video for it all, it does look as if the team is hitting all of it in stride. Have a look now, and also remember all of this was to warn you of some of the horrors you are going to be teased with well before the game even drops out there.

ILL — Official Reveal

Team Clout and Mundfish Powerhouse debuted a new trailer for the realistic action survival-horror ILL during Summer Game Fest, showcasing the game’s sleek graphics and grotesque enemies. ILL is the debut project from Team Clout and the first title under the Mundfish Powerhouse initiative, a new development and investment branch from the Atomic Heart developer seeking to support and uplift up-and-coming studios with visionary games in the industry.

Set in a mysterious research fort, ILL is a realistic first-person action/horror game that plunges players headlong into an immersive, atmospheric body horror narrative. From a development team that has worked with renowned film directors and designed monsters for horror films, and featuring innovative gameplay mechanics like a cutting-edge dismemberment system, binaural audio implementation, and realistic physics, ILL is both a love letter and an evolution of the survival horror genre. The title is built on the belief that games can go where films can’t: under the skin. To make the player not just witness fear, but experience it. Pain, dread, and disorientation are delivered straight into your hands with no escape, unlike in movies, where characters move you through the terror.

Something sinister has awakened within a vast research fort. This mysterious source of evil and the horrific Aberrations it spawned stand in the protagonist’s way to save what matters most to him. Unleash your survival instincts, as ILL will make you feel every second of the struggle for survival.

ILL is the first title set to release from Mundfish Powerhouse, the new business label from the developers behind 2023’s smash-hit Atomic Heart. Created with the singular goal of supporting ambitious developers to realize their creative visions, Mundfish Powerhouse is more than just a publishing imprint: it’s a multifunctional creative label, lending consultancy, financial aid, and other resources to those who have yet to establish themselves in the industry.

Key Features Of ILL:

  • A Realistic & Terrifying Experience — The game plunges you into a grim world with an eerie and atmospheric narrative, where every minute keeps you on the edge of your nerves. ILL challenges even the most seasoned fans of the genre with its disturbingly realistic horrors.
  • Intense Body Horror & Blood-Chilling AudioILL pushes the boundaries of the genre with its gory realism: grotesque monsters can be mutilated and mercilessly torn apart. Ripped flesh, exposed bone, disemboweled bodies – all this will make an unprecedented impression and shock you to the core. The binaural audio system amplifies the emotional impact, letting you feel the agony in every scream.
  • Dynamic Enemy Behavior & Realistic Physics — Enemies are unpredictable, and the game’s realistic physics makes the environment more than just a background — it becomes an active part of the gameplay, including during puzzle-solving. Your actions can affect the behavior of monsters and cause unexpected reactions — from impulsive interaction with the surroundings to disturbingly human-like reflexes.
  • Tactical Weapon & Resource Management — Feel the weight of your weapon in your hands with elaborate animations that reflect its unique physical properties. Not only is precision important, but also the maintenance of a diverse arsenal: checking for malfunctions, installing modifications, and upgrading. Strategic inventory management is critical to survival — the ability to craft an item could mean the difference between life and death.
  • Cinematic Horror Expertise & Influence — The developers of ILL are seasoned horror experts whose contributions can be seen in acclaimed films and series such as V/H/S/Beyond, Longlegs, IT: Welcome to Derry, Azrael, and various Sony Pictures horror projects. In ILL, they apply their film industry experience to create an immersive survival horror with a cinematic edge.

Were you able to make it through all of our ILL puns as well as the gruesome visuals that the game is going to hold? Do you think anything is going to be off-limits in the game, or do the weird baby creatures imply that nothing will be safe? Will it be too immersive for many out there, and will it also push the industry forward with what can be rendered and experienced in the mix? Take all of those thoughts on down to the comment section to discuss them all. We have been interested in ILL since it first started development, and glad to see where it is now with the official reveal of things. We will be keeping up on all of it as best we can, so please keep on checking back here to see and hear all about the body horror that might push things a bit too far for some. That is all part of the fun out there…
