A new found footage horror game, DEADCAM, is officially revealed with DEADCAM offering up many new experiences in the genre
It truly does feel like we are hitting the era of bodycam and found footage horror out there with our video games, with the official reveal we have for DEADCAM. This is a title that has been in the works for a while now from Joure Visser, but now is the time to dig into what is actually on the way to us all. Moreover, as DEADCAM will be looking to hit an Early Access stage soon and the gamers of the world will need to know what is coming. Especially since this PC title does look like it will be scrapping some of the basic gameplay that other titles like it have. That being said, this title is not just going to be a horror walking simulation out there, and we will have the chance to fight back. Even if it does look like we will be stabbing and shooting evil spirits more than anything. Let us take a deeper look, though.
Before any of you opt to make a comment on the visuals for DEADCAM, this is title that will not only be using the found footage format, but also leaning into the look and feel of the games from the ’80s and ’90s era of video games. Even if it is using the Unreal Engine 5 to drive it all. We can ignore that, as it does look like DEADCAM will be giving us not just one long video to play through, but many that will help us to uncover the mysteries and other horrors that the story has out there. Most likely, this is to make it easy to get from location to location and not drive the solo developer crazy doing so. Not a bad tactic to go with, as it has worked well in massive AAA titles already. Let us have a look at what is coming with this one and then set our expectations for when the Early Access does finally drop out there.
DEADCAM — Official Reveal
DEADCAM is an ’80s & ’90s inspired analog-survival-horror game based around found footage and built in Unreal Engine 5. Explore and survive various short stories presented as “recordings”, set in unique settings and locations. Each recording offers a unique mystery for you to uncover.
Analog
In DEADCAM, the player plays through various stories presented as “recordings.” It’s up to YOU to survive and uncover what happened there.
Survival
Each recording is a unique, self-contained experience set in its own location along with its own set of unique challenges and back-story. Some recordings might lean more into action, while others will engross the player in a frightening horror experience. It’s up to you to survive all the way through!
Horror
DEADCAM leans heavily into the gritty horror aesthetics of the 1980s and 1990s and takes inspiration from classic J-horror movies as well as American horror and slasher movies presented in a VHS-style presentation.
Are you excited to see what else DEADCAM will have to offer up down the line or is it going to get filed away as it does fit so many other games like it? How do you think the weapons will truly work in the game, and will these be more than just spirits that are coming after us in the end of it all? Do you think that we will shift more than just location between the tapes, and could we see different horror styles pop up as we swap the VHS tapes out? Take to the comment section to discuss all of this and much more. We will try to keep our eyes on DEADCAM going forward, as it does look like it will be a passion project out there. With any luck, it will hit its mark and offer up an experience that will help all of the others in the genre feel like they need to step up their game and make a difference in the development cycle.
