Until Dawn’s Movie Is Taking Things Into A Very Different Direction

Until Dawn — First Trailer

The first trailer for the Until Dawn movie is here and it looks like it is deviating from Until Dawn quite a bit

We have had our first look at the Until Dawn movie and now we have the full trailer to look at and see how it is going to adapt the events of the video game for the IP. It is something that Supermassive Games brought to life for us and spawned their ongoing line of video games out there, so this should be a smash hit and an easy thing to do for the broader audiences. Right? Well, that was the question we and many had when the Until Dawn movie was announced and then after having a quick look at things. Now we can dive in to see just how close it looks like it will be sticking to the source and if it will be something that we should be lining up to see on April 25th when it hits theaters.

You can have a look at the trailer for this very loosely adaptive version of Until Dawn, but it does look like the only real links will be through Easter Eggs and references more than anything. As the synopsis states, it is about a group of friends who have set out to find another missing friend. Only to learn that they have come to a mysterious house that has them living out some kind of horror each night and allowing them to “respawn” if they die during the events. The threat is different each night and it looks like they only get thirteen tries to figure it out before they join the ranks of the missing too. So, almost nothing like the events of Until Dawn but at least we get a look at the weird killer character we had in the game as one of the ones that attacked everyone…

Until Dawn — First Trailer

Can you make it until dawn? ⏳ The Until Dawn Movie is coming exclusively to theatres on April 25.

One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover and her friends head into the remote valley where she vanished in search of answers. Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer and horrifically murdered one by one…only to wake up and find themselves back at the beginning of the same evening. Trapped in the valley, they’re forced to relive the nightmare again and again – only each time the killer threat is different, each more terrifying than the last. Hope dwindling, the group soon realizes they have a limited number of deaths left, and the only way to escape is to survive until dawn.

So, yeah… This is going to be a thing and I am still wondering why it has the Until Dawn name attached to it beyond brand recognition. It even looks like Peter Stormare is not playing anything close to the character that was in the video games either, so that feels like stunt casting here to add to all of that. That is not to say that this will be a bad film out the gate, as it does sound like it has potential as a general horror film, but there is no reason to tie it to the Until Dawn line. The many lives thing is not even a thing in the video game, which is a weird thing to see added in. There doesn’t even seem like there is a good explanation as to why they need to live until the sun comes up, beyond using the title of the game and using the logos again.

Are you going to try to make it until dawn for this movie or does it seem like a massive deviation that you will not be able to get past that? Will there be more than just little links and references to the source material or will it only be that and a way for Sony to hold onto the IP from the original creators a little longer? Could this trailer be a massive misdirection and upsetting fans for no reason with the full film giving us all what we truly want out there like The Dark Pictures? Head on down to the comment section to leave those thoughts and feelings about all of this. We will keep an eye on the Until Dawn movie going forward and will share what we can with you here. Please keep on coming back to see and hear about all of it until it releases out there.
