Stygian: Outer Gods — Announcement

The Stygian universe is growing a bit more with the announcement that we have here for the upcoming Stygian: Outer Gods

More of that cosmic horror flair is on the way to us all with the announcement for Stygian: Outer Gods. The next title in the line coming to the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2025 with Misterial Games and Fulqrum Publishing keeping things alive. Alive in the way that this one is going to keep on building the world of Stygian: Reign Of The Old Ones for those who enjoyed that one and wanted more. Get ready to be a little bit more freaked out and see what other Lovecraftian monsters are being cooked up. At least when this one is fully ready to drop out there and give the intense gameplay we all expect from a game that covers these kinds of topics.

In Stygian: Outer Gods, we are assuming the role of a mercenary who has a weird little girl with them. All set in a dark and foggy location after a terrible shipwreck. Now, we must figure out how we are going to survive the new lands, keep our sanity, and roleplay our way to one of the many different endings that the game has lined up. Not to mention, get more of that sweet, sweet lore that the Stygian IP has been building since the last title. As long as you are into that and some first-person horror with puzzles mixed in. Have a look at the little more that we know about this game and see if it is going to be something you will be dying to be a part of.

Stygian: Outer Gods — Announcement

Set in the universe of Stygian: Reign Of The Old Ones, the game lets players witness and influence the events preceding the Black Day. Immerse yourself in a unique world full of dangers, unexplored dark corners, and looming evil beyond mortal comprehension.

Assume the role of a mercenary accompanying the enigmatic girl to the foggy settlement of Kingsport to uncover her family’s dark secret. You are shipwrecked and soon encounter the nightmares that have haunted this place for centuries. Would you be able to find your way out, keep your sanity, and prevent the coming of the ancient Outer Gods, or maybe being insane is the key to salvation?

Forbidden Harbor

Explore the dark streets of the forgotten settlement of Kingsport, inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Check its hidden corners and unlock access to new areas. Find its secrets, solve puzzles, open new paths, and unlock closed doors. Many locations await you: an old village, a mysterious mansion, dark mines, cemeteries, foggy forests, and, of course, an old lighthouse.

Survive The Horror

You will be in constant jeopardy, rarely escaping from monstrous enemies and devious traps unscathed. Physical harm is far from the gravest danger, however, as all these perils will take a toll on your psyche, and your mind may be hurt as well. Any mental afflictions you develop will impact your gameplay experience. Stay on the lookout for materials and recipes and craft the tools, medicines, and remedies necessary to face the horrors around you.

Roleplaying Mechanics

Choose your play style — unlock new abilities, find eldritch artifacts, and experiment with different ways to interact with the environment. You will always have choices and multiple paths to progress the story, but be prepared to face their consequences.

Impending Doom

Player choices influence events unfolding in the game world, leading to various endings. Any wrong word or action may have irreversible consequences. The world reacts to how you develop your character, the denizens and hazards may react differently depending on your madness and chosen playstyle.

Stygian Legacy

Stygian: Outer Gods takes place in the original Stygian universe, therefore certain events in this game may provide a fresh perspective on events and characters from the Reign Of The Old Ones.

Interestingly, we have this announcement for Stygian: Outer Gods and the trailer does not show off much of the horror side of it all. At least as of yet. There is the weirdness and paranoia that would normally come about from a game like this, but none of the bigger horrors that also usually come. This could be a great thing to lean more into our own fears and paranoia to drive the tension of the game. That or the teams are holding all of those back so we get a bigger surprise when playing the full version of Stygian: Outer Gods next year. Either way, I am interested and willing to hold out hope that this one is going to shock and awe us all when the time does finally come.

Where do you stand on the Stygian IP so far and is this a title you have been hoping to see out there? Will we be left to think of what is lurking in the shadows more than being shown it in the game? How do you think the sanity feature will play in this game and will it be more than a few additions to the HUD or weird things just popping up? Head on down to the comment section to let us all know your thoughts on this and everything else you have in that little head. When there is more to offer up for Stygian: Outer Gods, we will have it right here. Please keep on coming back to see and hear about all of that as it does come to light.
