Get further prepared for Wanted: Dead with another mechanic breakdown we will need to perfect in Wanted: Dead
There has been a whole lot of explosive content for Wanted: Dead up to now, and the explosions do not seem to want to stop yet. After getting to see some great combat broken down by Soleil for the game, we get to shift into the Finishers we are going to get to employ along the way through the game. Finishers that will not only be the same over-the-top ending to some enemies in Wanted: Dead, but also have a few other elements mixed in to help along the way. Given that February 14th is just around the corner for the launch on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, we are going to need all of the updates we can get for this title. If we want to have a chance of making it through all of the slicing and dicing that it will be holding.
Most of what you might be thinking about the finishers in Wanted: Dead are going to be about on point so far. There are many out there, all of which have been motion captured to add to the brutality, and they will be a mix of personal, environmental, and situational. The last part is that some will be from our weapons, others triggered by the area around the enemies, and the last one being completely random but fitting for what is at hand. IE: It could be the enemy’s weapon or something else nearby to help drive fear into the other’s eyes. That, of course, is something that can also further stagger the enemies to allow for Finisher chains in Wanted: Dead. To the extent that we could look badass while clearing an entire room with our Finishers playing out.
Wanted: Dead — Finishers Explained
110 Industries charges in with another installment to their Wanted: Dead Explained series, following last week’s ‘Combat Explained’ video. In this new trailer, discover all there is to know about Wanted: Dead’s stylish finisher mechanics as well as their importance for gameplay. Wanted: Dead is available to preorder now and is coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, & PC on February 14th, Valentine’s Day 2023.
Developed by Japanese studio Soleil, Wanted: Dead is not for the faint of heart, featuring over 50 savage and unique finisher moves that took over 100 hours of motion capture and a dedicated group of stuntmen to assemble.
Takedowns in Wanted: Dead are explosive in variety and feature situational kills, environmental hazards, and unique takedowns specific to enemy types. These kills provide bloodthirsty visuals to the onslaught while also serving a vital tactical purpose through replenishing lost health. It’s not as easy as it may appear though, players will come to learn that executing takedowns and finisher moves are essential for progression and will make certain encounters beatable.
Unlocked very early on in the game is Hannah’s ultimate attack. This slick attack will help to stack up staggered enemies, dealing devastating chain finishers that can effectively take down an entire room of enemies. Finishing strikes work by each enemy having an invisible stamina bar (melee enemies typically have more stamina than ranged fighters). As the player damages enemies, this stamina bar depletes slowly and once their stamina falls to zero the enemy enters a staggered animation and can be executed by the player. Another way to attain a finisher is by using last-moment parries with a sword or side arm which automatically drains the enemy’s stamina, providing the perfect opening for a kill.
Wanted: Dead uses a smart system of triggering finishing animations. First, the algorithm looks for the possibility of an environmental kill or a situational kill like using an enemy’s own weapon against them. Then the algorithm ensures that the player has a strong visual variety by constantly moving and rotating around enemies to achieve epic takedowns. These finisher moves are not only visceral and breathtaking, but they also serve a combat purpose making for some truly action-packed gameplay.
In addition to just looking cool in Wanted: Dead, this will also be a way that we will be able to heal our character up in the game too. A double-whammy of sorts where we will get stronger while the enemy forces get weaker. Since we will have to be competing with invisible stamina bars on those enemies, it will be a welcomed boon to have at our hands in the game. Even if it is not as clear as other games are when it comes to them. Wanted: Dead could surprise us and push the game systems forward in that way, though, just as other titles have in the past. Looking at you Arkham titles. They know what they did for this kind of game mechanic since they dropped out there.
Do you expect that you will be able to trigger all of the Finishers in Wanted: Dead or will you stick to the basic combat instead? Will we truly be able to clear entire rooms in the game with them or is that an overestimation of our skills? How often will we see some of the Finishers recycled or will the algorithm truly keep them all random all the time? Let us know your thoughts on all of this down in the comments and then feel free to discuss it all as you so wish to do. When we have anything further to share for Wanted: Dead, know that we will have it all here for you. Please keep checking in on the site to see and hear all of those updates too.
