New gameplay for Dying Light: Bad Blood is here and it gives us a small taste of where this battle royale mode for Dying Light is currently at
Not too long ago we heard about Dying Light: Bad Blood and what it was going to be bringing to the base game in terms of keeping up with all of those other titles out there. Not too surprising, it was the answer to the Battle Royale craze that is going on from Techland but also set in their zombie “shooter” that has had quite some staying power over the last few years. The core Dying Light hit the PS4, Xbox One, and PC three years ago and players are still deeply involved in it. It is a solid game, but players wanted a Battle Royale mode of sorts to keep the fun going and that is just what is in the works for them as it goes. At least if you want to call it that.
Here we are a few months after the first word of Dying Light: Bad Blood was coming and the global playtest is still in the works. At least you can still sign up for a chance to get in on it and see what is going on in this new mode. If you do not want to have to wait until that unknown time though, you can look just a bit below were IGN had a chance to give it all a go. This could mean that a public/global version is on the way in short order, or it could just be a showing of how much more work needs to go into it all to make it a viable way to keep Dying Light living for just a bit longer. Not that it needs to die or anything, but new blood does need to flow to keep players engaged.
Dying Light: Bad Blood — Battle Royale Gameplay
Rapid looting: You and five other players are dropped into a hostile, zombie-infested area. Each of you has the same goal: to evacuate before the night falls. Use your parkour skills to swiftly traverse the city, scavenging for weapons that will give you an edge over your opponents. But remember, the clock is ticking.
Allies & Traitors: To pay for a seat on the extraction chopper, you need to harvest blood samples from the infected. Form dynamic alliances with other players to get tactical against formidable zombie bosses — and then turn on your allies to steal their samples. In a cruel set-up where everyone fights for the survival of the few, betrayal is not a question of “if”, but “when”.
Evacuation: The more samples the players harvest collectively, the more seats are unlocked. But everyone pays for their seat individually, which means the alliances are short-lived and can easily end with a stab in the back. Make sure you have enough evacuation points once the chopper arrives, and don’t get killed as you race to the extraction zone.
In all honesty, Dying Light: Bad Blood looks just like the basic multiplayer mode with a few extra rules here. At least that is how it looks to me here. Maybe there is more going on that I do not see or that is still in the works as it is not done yet, but it still looks like the same game just with more PCs running around fighting pretty sloppy like. It has been a bit of time since I enjoyed a good play of Dying Light and maybe things have changed a bit, but I cannot see a difference. This is a good thing and a bad thing. The base game was so good from before that it did not need much of an update in my eyes. In terms of a DLC or expansion though, there needs to be more substance here. I can already play the game in the way I am seeing here and can “fake” the extra rules we need to follow. Maybe that is just me though…
What say you on all of this for Dying Light: Bad Blood though? Do you like where it looks like everything is going or do you see very little in the way of change as I do? Could this all be part of the early build or is my memory of the core and expansions of the game so clouded that I need to give it all a go yet again? Let me and everyone out there know down in the comments. As we learn more for Dying Light: Bad Blood in any way, we will bring it to you here on the site. All you need to do is stick close and what for those updates. If you are a fan of the franchise I am sure you will want to see how all of this pans out.
