New Vampyr Screenshots Ask ‘Who Will You Kill?’

Vampyr — Screenshot

New screenshots for Vampyr have been released and they show off the duality of Vampyr’s protagonist as every kill will have an effect on the game’s world

Slowly but surely we are getting to see Vampyr evolve into an amazing looking title. Now we have a whole new batch of screenshots from Dontnod to show off a bit of the game’s world as well as some of the choices that Reid has to make in the game. Reid of course being the main character we will be controlling in Vampyr when it finally hits the PS4, Xbox One, and PC sometime in 2017. Hopefully Focus Home Interactive will be able to get this out the door in the earlier parts of the year but I’m going to guess it will be some time in the middle of the year. Hopefully we’ll be surprised.

In the following new images we get to see Reid make a kill and save a life in the game. This of course all plays into the dual roles he has taken on as a doctor in London during the Spanish Flu pandemic in 1918; the other as a recently turned Vampyr who needs to kill to survive and grow in strength. Apparently Reid only gets more abilities and supernatural powers by draining bodies of blood so I am curious if there is a way to go through the game now without taking a life and being the worst vampire in the history of the world. That has to be possible right? I know I’ll give it a try.

Of course for those who are just now hearing about Vampyr here you may be thinking “why would anyone want to do that?” That would be due to the fact that every kill in the game is going to have a sort of ripple effect in London so we will have to be selective on our killing. I have a feeling that due to this mechanic most of the kills in the game will be a scripted event as it would be almost unimaginable to have a distinct and realistic AI for every NPC to have all kills effect the world in a meaningful way. I’m sure that killing a man dying of Spanish Flu that is on your table won’t have much of an effect and that is not what Dontnod is going for here.

As a Vampyr, you have to accept your need to sacrifice people to survive. Feeding on people will be the basis of your character progression, as it will allow you to learn supernatural Vampyr powers and talents that will be useful in persuasion, locomotion, survivability, and combat. So the dilemma that’s offered to you isn’t “should I kill people?” but more “who will I kill”? And this decision won’t be without consequences. Killing one person will create a rippling effect on London’s ecosystem and you will have to live with both the repercussions and their death on your conscience. Decide to feed on a renowned doctor from the city hospital, and progressively see the health condition of the patients drop.

What are your thoughts on how Vampyr is shaping up here? Does it look like a great follow up to their last title that came out? Do you agree that it will be only major kills that will truly affect the game’s world or do you think it really could be all? Let us know your thoughts and discuss in the comments below. For more on Vampyr as it comes be sure to stay right here. Our eyes are firmly on this title and we’ll get you everything we can as it is handed out.
