A demo for The Sinking City has been built for upcoming events and now we have some new gameplay for The Sinking City to look at and get ready for
It looks like we have our first taste of gameplay for The Sinking City as the team over at Frogwares is gearing up to show it off at many of the upcoming events that are on the way. GDC and EGX being some of them thrown out by name. If you are lucky enough to be going to either there, then you will most likely have a chance to see The Sinking City in action. The rest of the gaming world, not so much. They will have to make due with just the scraps we can gather up here in the latest developer diary for the game. Or developer update as it is labelled here. Either way, new gameplay is to be had.
In the below video for The Sinking City, none of the gameplay truly meshes together for our viewing in a way that makes sense, but it is there to see. Given that this update is on how they put together this new demo of the game for the events, it makes a bit of sense so they can give those event goers something truly fun to see. The team also goes into how they did not want to make just a subsection of The Sinking City with aspects that would never be used again, so what we do get to see should make its way into the final game in one way or another. As a direct mission or whole section we get to play out, that is really anyone’s guess at this point.
The Sinking City — How To Make An Event Demo
The Sinking City is an open world, open investigation game set in a Lovecraft universe. The player steps into the shoes of a private investigator who finds himself trapped in the city of Oakmont Massachusetts — a city suffering from unprecedented floods of supernatural origins. The player must uncover the source of whatever has taken possession of the city and the minds of its inhabitants.
Welcome to our fifth The Sinking City update video. With GDC and EGX just around the corner, we are preparing to showcase the game for the first time to the public at these events. In this video, we wanted to show you the “in’s and out’s” of making a public demo — the highs, the lows, and the temptations that go with it.
The Sinking City is a Lovecraft-inspired investigation game, which takes place in the 1920s Massachusetts, United States. You’ll step into the shoes of a private detective who arrives in the fictional city of Oakmont, suffering from unprecedented floods of clearly supernatural origins.
One part of this new gameplay for The Sinking City that stood out to me had to be the transition from the boat through the water and back into the room the character is starting in. Even though it is all a cutscene for the game, it shows off just the strangeness this open-world investigative game set on the backdrop of Lovecraft mythology will be. It brought back some of those great feelings from Silent Hill with that shot alone. Now I just want more for The Sinking City and will sadly need to wait like the rest of you. I am hoping that the wait is not too long and that the gameplay demo will not just be for a very closed audience. We will see.
What is your hot take on The Sinking City after seeing this fun and dark new gameplay? Will you need to wait for more to be able to pass final judgment or will this be enough to get you going for it? Will the gameplay in its full form ever see the light of day or will we be stuck reading or hearing about someone else’s experience shortly after these events take place? Let us all know what is on your mind down in the comments and then discuss. We will certainly have more for The Sinking City in the future and to be able to see all of that, just stick close to the site. You will not be let down.
