After a lot of back and forth, it looks like Agony will no longer be getting an unrated version and there may be fewer updates for Agony in the coming weeks
Well, it looks like we may not be getting that unrated version of Agony after all now. At least outside of the videos that Madmind Studios has placed out there to give us a look at how the game’s story could have played out and looked in its raw form. It was never anything too crazy but it was a way to make sure we all saw the version of Agony they had planned for us. It is no more now as the studio has hit some financial woes and will not be bringing this path too us now. Yes, sadly, you read that correctly and it applies to all of the versions of the game no matter PS4, Xbox One, or PC.
The finer details of all of this are still not defined, but it looks like it all boils down to the legal issues that the team was faced with creating this version of Agony as well as “technical” issues. I am not sure what that could truly be as it seems like this version of the game was already completed and they had to trim some of the fat to get it to pass the rating boards in the location where some of the content was illegal. It just seems odd, but nonetheless, we will not be seeing this patch or update for Agony and it also looks like future patches and updates for the current version will be sparse as well.
The Future Of Agony
Hi Gamers,
We regret to inform you that our company is currently struggling with financial problems. Due to technical and legal reasons, Madmind must cancel the development of Agony Unrated. Part of the team will continue to support Agony on Steam and consoles by publishing new patches.
Regarding the Xbox One patch — we have managed to find and fix the bug that was present on the Xbox One X console. We have sent the improved update to our publisher, who will pass it to the Microsoft today or tomorrow and we are expecting it to be approved in the next couple of days.
PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC will get another patch this week. It will introduce many fixes and a highly refined lighting system.
Kind regards,
At the very least, it was good to see that Agony made it out there in some form or another given everything going on around it. The game is still not being seen in any great lights by the bigger powers that be, but at least it was not another Kickstarter title that never saw the light of day or did not give what was promised. I do hope that the team is able to carry on and move forward from where Agony got them, but sadly it sounds like that may not be the case in the end. I guess we will all see here in the future.
What are your thoughts on all of this for Agony here? Did you expect this to happen or did you think that they were going to get this patched version out there one way or another? Do you think this is the first sign that the studio is going to close down or is it them just refocusing on their next project and cluing us into what is going on? Let us all know what you are thinking about this down in the comments and then discuss. If there is more for Agony or their other titles, we will have it all here. Be sure to keep checking back in to see and hear all about those games in the future.
