A Final Release Date Has Been Set Down For Overload On PC

Overload — Release Date

The release date for Overload has been set for PC with a console version of Overload slated for Q3 of this year

If six-degree-of-freedom tunnel shooters are your thing then get ready for one more as Overload has been saddled with a release date now and will be leaving Early Access. That may sound like this is only a PC title based on that, but Revival Productions has just wrapped that version up and packing it up for May 31st. Overload is also hitting the PS4 and Xbox One, but that will be sometime in Q3 of this year at this point. Do not let that detract you from the announcement of it getting its full release in just over a month from now. Unless you are a console exclusive gamer and then you can move right along and wait. Or keep reading to see if this is going to be a title you are amped for to finally hit the consoles.

Anyway, Overload looks much like a fancier version of Decent from so long ago. Given that it was the inspiration for the game here, it makes perfect sense. As you can see in the below trailer, we will get to fly around these tunnels shooting everything up as we are supposed to do in these situations. All while trying to find out way out of all of these labyrinthine environments. All with a deep story campaign and all sorts of other challenges and trials that will come along with it all. For the reduced price of $39.99, one cannot truly knock the whole game or experience. Especially based on what sizzle we see it is supposed to hold within.

Have a look at the new trailer for Overload and all of the features that are aimed to make you pick the game up. It will have some VR support for the Oculus and Vive, so there is another fun selling point. Although, given the degree of movement involved in Overload, that could be a boon or hindrance to the overall fun. I guess we will see in just over a month from now. Hopefully, the PS VR will get some love with the game as well but that has never seemed the case in past tiles going multiplatform and having VR support.

Overload — Release Date

Revival Productions announced that Overload, the new six-degree-of-freedom tunnel shooter from the original creators of the critically-acclaimed 90s classic Descent, will be available for PC (Windows, Mac, & Linux) beginning May 31, 2018 for $34.99. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will release Q3 2018. Revival Productions was founded by Matt Toschlog and Mike Kulas, co-founders of legendary Parallax Software. Revival has created Overload, an FPS that combines the best of classic 6-DOF gameplay found in Descent with the latest in today’s technology to provide intense 3D action on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

“We started Overload as a nostalgic homage to Descent, but it’s really grown into something more. We were able to create a deep story with voice, a new challenge mode and add VR support. And all this is on top of graphics and sound we could only dream about 20 years ago,” said Mike Kulas, co-creator, Revival Productions. Matt Toschlog added, “It’s been a blast creating this game, and we especially value the relationships we’ve formed with our Kickstarter backers and Early Access players.”

Descent, developed by Parallax Software and published by Interplay in 1995, received critical acclaim for its 3D six-degree-of-freedom gameplay that combined the best of space flight simulation with FPS experience. Overload offers a Descent-like style of play, but brings the labyrinthine environments to new and vibrant life with updated features, deeper gameplay, and dramatically enhanced graphics. Overload is currently available in Early Access on Steam with a user rating of 97%.
