A new indie-horror title, Liminal Point, is announced with Liminal Point taking us back to some classic roots in the genre
It is time to remember some of those classic roots in the horror genre out there with the announcement for Liminal Point. Not because this is a game show or trivia-style game about the genre, but more that it looks as if HideWorks is leaning into some of the elements that made it so popular back when titles like Resident Evil and Silent Hill were just emerging. Yeah, we are going way back and with Liminal Point not leaning into the other basics of classic visuals to give it a retro feeling. That feels like the bigger twist when it comes to titles like this as it does look like a game that could be coming out in 2026 on the PC instead of one that came out in 1996 on the PC.
The story behind Liminal Point places us in the shoes of Lyra who must explore a weird island and various other abandoned locations to figure out another mystery in the world. One that just will not stay quiet or down, as it looks to be a whole lot of different creatures and beings that keep crawling up. Some that will test anyone’s sanity after seeing them, if they are able to survive. To handle all of that Lyra gets to go about uncovering truths and surviving it all in Liminal Point by walking about and attacking back as needed. All in the classic styles we have seen in the other titles mentioned before. Although, I would also throw in Parasite Eve for those true classic horror fans out there with how the inventory and combat management seem to function the bit of gameplay you can have a look at just a bit lower down. All with the flashy visuals of a modern title in the mix too.
Liminal Point — Announcement
Liminal Point is a psychological survival horror game that pays homage to the classics of the genre while delivering a modern, spine-chilling experience, blurring the line between reality and nightmares. Set on a desolate, fog-covered island shrouded in mystery, you will step into the role of Lyra, a once-rising rock star, as she uncovers the haunting truth behind the disappearance of her bandmate, Mira—and the sinister secrets the island holds.
As Lyra explores the island’s eerie, abandoned locations, she will encounter cryptic messages, twisted creatures that defy understanding, and a haunting past that refuses to stay buried. With every step, the world around her becomes more surreal, challenging her grip on reality and forcing her to confront the depths of her own psyche.
Can you unravel the truth, or will the island claim you as its next victim?
Key Features:
- Classic Survival Horror: A modern take on the genre’s timeless formula: limited resources, tense encounters, and an atmosphere dripping with dread. Manage your limited inventory space carefully, and rely on the map to plan your next moves wisely as you navigate the fog-shrouded island, the mansion, the hospital, or the sewers. Every decision matters when survival is at stake.
- Immersive Psychological Horror: Unravel a layered story of tragedy, memory, and the blurred line between reality and nightmare as you piece together Lyra’s past and Mira’s role in the events.
- Atmospheric Exploration: Navigate haunting locations, from crumbling mansions to fog-shrouded streets, where every corner hides a new mystery—or danger.
- Rich Visuals: A striking isometric perspective with detailed environments and dynamic lighting that brings the world of Liminal Point to life.
- Evocative Sound Design: A chilling original soundtrack and ambient audio immerse you in the tension of the island’s desolate hall, abandoned mansion, and much more.
Prepare to uncover the secrets of Liminal Point. But remember: the truth comes at a cost.
Are you excited to see some classic gameplay but with modern looks and settings out there? Will this be truly closer to all of the titles mentioned for inspiration or will that only be on us for seeing it all instead? How rough do you think the combat in the game is going to be and will it try to emulate those terrible tank controls from the past for some reason? Head on down to the comment section to discuss all of this and everything else you are seeing out there for the game. We will keep an eye on Liminal Point, for sure, so please keep on checking back here to see what we are able to find in this new fog. It does certainly feel like a title that many gamers have been asking for that is not just a shot-for-shot remaster and remake of other titles out there.
