New gameplay for The Backrooms: 1998 is here to show how The Backrooms will be opening up for the consoles
We had a nice little announcement that The Backrooms: 1998 was coming out with a full version for the PC and then there would be a release on the consoles sometime soon. That time is still a little nebulous as of right now, but Feardemic does want to make sure we all know this is going to be happening. All so more of the gaming community can experience a different take on the found footage nature of The Backrooms: 1998 and see just how the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch could be handling this little project when those versions are ready. So, this is a two-for-one kind of update as the 1.0 version is here for the PC and we have a bit more to look at for the consoles as they come down the pipes and clip back into our realities.
Sadly, we do not have a date other than 2025 for all of these releases for The Backrooms: 1998, and links are still getting generated for them, but we do have even more of that sweet gameplay to stumble right along with. Gameplay looks to take us even further into the darkness of the world and try to make out what we are seeing with the graininess of the footage. It is also something that is fitting for the setting of The Backrooms but does feel like it will be annoying for those who are always looking for next-level visuals in their video games. Making it feel like we are seeing low-res but with a 4K screen feels a little harsh on the eyes. Maybe that is just me and you can have a look for yourself just a little lower down on the page with the new footage we have to celebrate this new milestone for the game.
The Backrooms: 1998 — Console Gameplay
The Backrooms: 1998 – Survival Horror Game is finally coming out to Steam, Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo! (1.0 release)
The Backrooms: 1998 is a first-person found footage psychological horror survival game where it tells the story of a young teen after accidentally falling into the depths of The Backrooms in 1998. Roam freely, mark, explore, and try to unravel the story – however, you are not alone. Don’t scream.
Search for supplies, tools, and items to help in your escape. Such tools as a spray gun which can help you to mark your path so you don’t get lost in The Backrooms. Things you may see in the shadows, are sometimes not shadows. Something or someone may be lurking in there with you. Use your stamina only when needed, and tread carefully. Hiding in crawl spaces, under tables, or inside lockers if you see something unusual can be a good idea.
Are you going to be heading into The Backrooms here or will you be watching others do it from the safety of your other screens? Is it a little harsh to see such shoddy visuals on a high-res setting or will that just be more of the charm pushing through? Is it odd that in an age when everyone is pushing for higher resolutions and faster framerates, they always seem to enjoy the classics from decades ago that could never come anywhere close? Head on down to the comment section to discuss all of this and everything else that is going on with the game. We will share what we can for The Backrooms: 1998, so please keep on checking back for any and all of those updates as they flow out there. With luck, it will be very soon that we get to experience all of that in the pipeline.
