Fear The Reaper Places Us All Into A New Kind Of Killer Role

Fear The Reaper — Official Reveal

The Reaper is on the way to us all with a new asymmetrical horror title that has been revealed with Fear The Reaper

A new thing to fear is on the way out there with Fear The Reaper getting announced and gearing up for us all to survive yet another bit of horror out there on the PC. This is a new title on the way from Pleasantly Friendly Games, where seven of our friends and we will need to head into a new horrorscape that will hit all of those little horror tropes out there. The Reaper is on the way to us all the time, and this one will let us all see new and different ways that can be. As long as you are still into that multiplayer horror experience that feels like it is getting a little too crowded out there. There is always room to innovate, though, and now we can see if this is going to be the next one that does.

If it was not easy to catch right away for Fear The Reaper, this is going to be a 1 vs 7 where one takes up the role of the killer and the others take up the roles of the various residents of the town that is being terrorized. The fun little twist to it all will be that the residents will have random classes applied to them to better stop The Reaper out there. Eight different classes at that where some will get extra ammo, or have the ability to spot the other players easier. Along with the trope of The Final Girl in the match where the residents will need to keep them alive with the killer has to hunt them down and help them end with all of their living. Have a look at the reveal of it all just a bit lower down and see if this is going to be the version of this genre that will finally get you to jump right on in.

Fear The Reaper — Official Reveal

Fear The Reaper is an asymmetrical horror multiplayer game, with up to 8 players per lobby. Difficulty and balance scale with the number of players in a match. One player becomes The Reaper, a terrifying killer, while the others become Residents of the town The Reaper terrorizes. Residents are assigned unique roles, granting them special abilities, goals, and ways to contribute and help others and themselves.

The Reaper has but one concern – to terrorize and kill.

The Residents have a wide variety of objectives and methods of surviving or escaping the match. They can even attempt to turn the tide and kill The Reaper (or die trying).

The town itself offers a sandbox experience, with many locations, activities, and side-objectives. The game is designed around player freedom. While other games in the genre often punish players who don’t (or can’t) engage in teamwork and coordination, Fear The Reaper accommodates all play styles, offering plenty of teamwork opportunities but never forcing it.

The Roles:

Each Resident is assigned a randomly chosen role at the start of the match. You could be THE PROTECTOR for instance – you load into the match with a shotgun and extra ammo. Any player in need of help is highlighted to you. You can be the hero… or choose to be selfish and keep the shotgun for yourself.

There are 8 unique roles so far, with THE FINAL GIRL being the most important one. If chosen, you are the “main character” of the match. The other Residents are encouraged to keep you alive, while the Reaper attempts to locate and eliminate you. Whichever side succeeds benefits greatly!

Endgame Scenarios:

Each match can end in several different events which aim to simulate the final act of a horror film with several different scenarios depending on player choices and performance. Once the main phase of the match is finished, the stakes are raised, and the remaining players are grouped together and tasked with facing off with The Reaper one last time in a cinematic and intense final showdown.

Each of them offers “a game within a game”, changing the rules, goals, and objectives and significantly increasing intensity, just as a good horror movie does in its final moments.

Each additional map will come with its own unique set of scenarios and objectives, increasing variety and replayability.

Will The Reaper in this one be a more grounded killer in the mix or will we get to see various things added in to give them an edge over the other players? Will The Final Girl always be in the mix of roles or could we go through a match where that is not the case? Will it be a rough sell to players if they are not able to select their roles in the matches or will that be one of the bigger equalizers for the longer run of it all? Slide on down to the comment section to discuss all of this and everything else that is going on out there. We will share all that we can find for Fear The Reaper going forward, so please keep on checking back in for all of those updates and much, much more. It is always nice to see something trying to shake things up further.
