Don’t Get PWNed Over MGO

Metal Gear Monday

Ok…so this is fucked up. First, I have to go out and search for a store that has the Metal Gear pre-order. An elusive thing, I just lucked out I have an awesome person on the inside at my local GameStop. She’s awesome /much love. But in any instance, I get the hook up. Make my pre-order and get the DVD that has the activation key in it. So I’m a happy cat. Except for that it states that the key is invalid when I go to put it in. Figure that is just cause they are not opening it up until the 17th. We’ll see. But that’s not the point here. The point is the further ass fucking you need to go through to get on to this “bonus.”

I cam across this on the Official PlayStation Blog. Not only do you have to go through the pre-order and finding part, but you also have to register for not one, but two ID names to just be able to log in. WTF?! Two. All done through a very shitty site that takes about a minute just to hop between pages. Even with a T1 like I have it took forever. You need to register for a Konami ID. After you go through the pain of going through this shit, only hard because of how clunky the site is. THEN, and this is buried in the site, you need to go through the new profile you made and create a Game ID. You can find this after you log in and click on “View/Edit Registration”. Now for the further shit part. You can’t use the same name as the Konami ID and you have to have a Numeric only password for this. WTF?

If you are a masochist, like me, or a fan of the game and go through all of this, kudos. It is required, so to be in you have to do this. This better be worth all the hoops Konami is making everyone go through. Here’s a snippet of the release and the link is below. </RANT>

Upon launching and going past the main menu, you’ll see that you need to sign up for a Konami ID. What is a Konami ID you ask? It is Konami’s service that has actually been around for a while in Japan, which basically allows for a unified account and access across various Konami products and services. Konami ID will be used for the first time in MGO for the US, and using the Konami ID allows for some of the really unique features we plan to offer the community with MGO. Once you hit the Konami ID sign up menu option, you should notice something subtle, but really cool: MGO launches the PS3 web browser from in-game and takes you to the Konami ID registration page. You can also simply visit http://id.konami.net from your favorite Web browser right now and sign up as well, to get a head start!

After the simple registration process, you will attain your Konami ID as well as GAME ID for MGO (the GAME ID is your MGO specific ID, basically).
