A new story trailer for Past Cure is here and it comes with some new commentary that makes Past Cure’s story sound strange but worth the time to look at
Leading up to now, we have had some good looks at Past Cure and have been able to gather a bit of the story over time. It is a narrative driven title with all of the fun that comes with that, but it looks like there may be more going on than we knew before. Phantom 8 Studio has not given out all of the details for the story of the game so far, for good reason, but it looks like that is changing a bit with another look at Past Cure. Given that it is still slated to hit the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on February 23rd, it makes sense that we should start to get more to wrap our brains around for the game. Although, this may not be the easiest of tasks to accomplish.
Here we have another story trailer for Past Cure and it goes into more on the protagonist, Ian, and just what is going on in all of those trailers we have seen before. He is an ex-elite soldier who vanished and then popped back up three years later with no memory of what happened or what had gone on during the time. He is found by his brother and also finds out that he has some extra mental powers thanks to whatever happened. Those powers, of course, come with a drawback and will require him to take some special medication to control the negative side effects of the powers. Medication he will need to use his powers to get more of in Past Cure, which is a bit more of what we have already seen for the game already.
Past Cure — Commented Story Trailer
After years of disappearance, Ian, a former elite soldier, suddenly appears… changed. Ian’s brother shelters him in a far off safe house to come to grips with his memory loss and the effects of the experiments he was forced to endure. In an attempt to tap into the hidden power of the mind, Ian’s captors left him scarred with unrelenting nightmares, visions and unstable powers such as time manipulation and telekinesis.
Driven by his desperate need for the truth and a thirst for revenge, Ian sets out on a thrilling hunt for the masterminds of this conspiracy. As Ian plunges into a criminal underworld in pursuit of a new lead, he is forced to use his mental powers to survive. But with each use, his mind becomes ever more detached from reality, revealing the presence of an even darker force at play.
I am sure there is more to the story of Past Cure; at least I hope so or it will be one long mission for the game. I am certain though based on all of the other things going on in Ian’s brain that we will certainly get to see and experience. Especially since it looks like reality and whatever is going on in Ian’s brain will start to blend in the game and that can lead to some weird places for sure. It would be interesting to see that occur randomly in the game based on how often we use Ian’s powers, but I have a feeling that these will all be scripted sequences by Phantom 8 Studio to try to frame Past Cure in the way it should be. It makes the most sense here.
What are your new thoughts on the story of Past Cure based on all of this from above? Does it sound like another generic style super-powered-amnesiac story or will it be deeper and more meaningful than that? Do you agree that the reality blending scenes will be scripted for the story or do you think it is possible that they will show up during the game if we overuse Ian’s powers? Let us have all of those thoughts down in the comments and then feel free to discuss. For more on Past Cure as we get it, just make sure to stick close to the site. We will keep all of those updates coming as they are passed right along.
