A new psychological thriller game, Those Who Remain, has been announced and it sounds like Those Who Remain will blend some other game’s elements to thrill us
Here we go with another psychological thriller title for the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and PC as Those Who Remain has been announced and coming sometime in 2018. It has been in the works for a year or so now from Camel 101, but now it has been brought to us to give us a small look at the game and get a bit more excited about it all. Just as we always do with video games and such. How else would we learn about Those Who Remain if they did not do these kinds of announcements and such? I guess that is why so many titles seem to fall through the cracks for some as there are some that get no big announcements and just releases.
Moving right along, Those Who Remain will be taking us to a fictional town in the US called Dormont where our protagonist will encounter mysterious entities and face some of the town’s “inner demons.” This sounds a bit familiar… In order to stay alive, our protagonist will need to stick to the light in the world and steer clear of all of the darkness that has fallen on Dormont. All of this while traversing through portals that have opened up in the town that will take us to a dark reflection of our world in some kind of mirrored dimension. I swear I’ve heard this before… While this is also going on we will also have a narrative to play through with a kid that is the center of the story who is also a victim of bullying.
Those Who Remain — Announcement
Those Who Remain is a psychological thriller that takes place in Dormont, a small fictional town in the US. Dormont appears to be a typical place at first glance, but the town is actually under a curse that has shrouded everything in darkness.
When our protagonist arrives in Dormont, he soon learns that he has more to face than his own inner demons. Mysterious entities roam through the dark, taking any who wander too close. In order to survive, you must stay in the light. Light means safety. Darkness equals death.
The darkness is not the only abnormal thing in Dormont. There are strange portals connecting our world to another dimension. A dimension similar to ours, yet different — a kind of dark reflection of our own world. And just like reflections, actions in one dimension are mirrored in the other.
Those Who Remain is starting to sound a lot like Silent Hill if you ask me. This is not a bad thing, but it is something that I keep going back to. Replace Darkness with Fog and we are about there. It does sound like Camel 101 is looking to stand out with the game by giving us multiple endings to the plot based on actions we take during the game. Not in the way of the “Choose Your Own Adventure” stories we have in those episodic adventures, but in ways that have yet to be explained. Wait… that makes Those Who Remain sound even more like Silent Hill. I guess if the original developer and publisher will not do it, someone has to. I just hope it stands apart enough to not be a clone and get lost in that side of things.
What are your thoughts on Those Who Remain as it all stands right now? Do you agree that it is starting to sound more and more like Silent Hill or will any title with these elements keep bringing us back to that franchise? How many different endings do you think we are going to see in the game and will they be drastic or just slight variations along the way? Give us all of your thoughts on this and more down in the comments and then discuss. As we get more information on Those Who Remain though we will update you all here on the site. Just keep checking back in to be sure to see it all.
