It seems like South Park: The Fractured But Whole has already caused a stir in the most South Park of ways but you most likely missed the joke due to ‘controversy’
As we mentioned earlier, we are still waiting for a bit more for South Park: The Fractured But Whole to give us more of the basic gameplay and other option we may get along the way. While we were waiting, it looks like Ubisoft has allowed some of the other bigger outlets the ability to give the first few hours of the game a play and then give out their impressions so far. It is the usual fair as we all know, but it seems like one little tidbit was the focus that took the internet by storm and caused all kinds of outcry back and forth. That tidbit being that the difficulty of South Park: The Fractured But Whole is all tied to the shade of your character’s skin. Something that should have been expected from a game like this, but it still had a lot of panties in a bunch for the general and obvious reasons that it should. If only people had a better sense of humor or actually listened to things though…
No, this is not me being coy or dismissive of something that could have been a huge deal, but me having a slight laugh at the expense of those who took that at face value and with what all of those other outlets wanted to believe. The shade slider in South Park: The Fractured But Whole actually DOES NOT affect the difficulty of the game. This has been confirmed from the developers but also by Cartman if you actually paid any attention to the game and listened to Cartman’s dialog. But hey, we are in a knee jerk reaction type of world and we can still see many outlets still crying out that this is the case. Have a look at one of the big names out there who took it all to heart and see if you can hear the phrase, “It doesn’t affect combat. Just every other aspect of your whole life.” It may be hard to hear given everything else, but have a listen and see if you can catch it as so very few have.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole — Character Creation And Difficulty Slider
Let’s Play South Park: The Fractured But Whole! We got our hands on some brand new South Park: The Fractured But Whole gameplay, where we start the game at the very beginning and test out the character creator and er, difficulty slider, and choose our hero’s backstory and abilities.
Yes, it is all a joke in South Park: The Fractured But Whole and still very fitting for the game and everything else we can expect from the studio. It is not actually tied to anything but a joke as is everything else in the game and universe here. In fact, Ubisoft has also stated that this is all a joke based on a bit of work from people like author John Scalzi’s Straight White Male: The Lowest Difficulty Setting There Is. Now let us all calm down and get back to not over-sensationalizing everything for views and get back to the facts of the game. Or keep it up and lose sight of all the fun that could be had in South Park here due to being too sensitive.
Now that the rant there is over, it does look like we have a few looks at the opening minutes of South Park: The Fractured But Whole. Also a very basic character creation system that looks to allow for only the most basic of changes right out of the gate. Granted, we are supposed to be able to pick up new gear along the way and “build our brand” as we continue along the path to save the town from whatever is the new threat. It also looks like the character types may have been trimmed down to three instead of the nine that we saw from before. Maybe those will open up later or on sequential plays, but that does not seem like the case. This could be the reason for the delays as they were removed or adjusted, but it does not seem to fit the gameplay to be able to change classes later on. Then again, this is South Park and any number of things could cause for a “re-roll” or “re-branding” as The Coon is the one giving you the backstory from the start.
If you want, here is more of the above Let’s Play for South Park: The Fractured But Whole to go through. Keep an open ear and eye out there though as it does look like some of these bigger outlets are focusing on specific things so you might miss out on some of the finer details and nuances that could be hidden in the world of South Park. Have fun and enjoy.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole — Creepy Priests, ‘The Talk’, And Morgan Freeman
Let’s Play South Park: The Fractured But Whole Part 2! Following on from our character creation, we choose our gender, get in some fights, meet some, er, overly-friendly priests, and get a crafting tutorial from none other than Morgan Freeman. Just another day in South Park.
What do you think about all of this for South Park: The Fractured But Whole or did you catch it all the first time around? Do you think that it is absurd for everyone to have latched on to something that was obviously a huge joke or does it make sense given the current state of the world? Do you think that we will get to play as any of those other classes we saw from before or do you think that Ubisoft has stripped them during the delays to make things a bit more focused? Let us all know down in the comments and then discuss. For more on South Park: The Fractured But Whole, and hopefully more gameplay, keep checking in here to keep up to date. We will do our best to wade through all the bullshit that the others promote that are obviously jokes here.
