A new nightmare for The Evil Within 2 is here and looks to bring Sebastian’s life to a quick end in The Evil Within 2 if he does not keep moving
Before you carry on with this new update for The Evil Within 2, you may want to make sure you have a fresh set of underpants ready as it is for a new monstrosity that will be chasing us down. We are not talking about a basic monster here, but one of the more insane and frightening ones that Tango Gameworks is cooking up for us here. Something that they have labeled as the Gruesome, Giggling Guardian for The Evil Within 2 that pretty much fits the bill on all of the verbs used there for it. It is a hulking mass of body parts that have been put together somehow and able to swing a massive circular saw around to try and hack Sebastian and, presumably, anyone else unfortunate to be in the path. And lucky you, Bethesda is showing it off at PAX West to build more hype before October 13th.
In addition to the new monster here, we also have a nice little section of gameplay for The Evil Within 2 that shows off some of the bizarreness and jumps that we can expect. It is also a small part of the gameplay demo that will be out there at PAX as well so you can get a head start on it here before diving in and trying not to scream in the mass of people out there. At least you can be ready for about five minutes of the demo as that is what we have here from chapter two of The Evil Within 2. Maybe we will be seeing a nice little snippet for each chapter before launch at this pace. We gamers can hope of course…
The Evil Within 2 — The Gruesome, Giggling Guardian
A breathless chase down a hallway. Echoing laughter and the whirring of a sawblade dogging your steps. If you’re brave enough to look behind you, you’ll see the maelstrom of body parts that make up the monstrous creature known as Guardian. Aside from a handful of brief glimpses in trailers, the recent hands-on demo for The Evil Within 2 was our first real up-close-and-personal encounter with Guardian, and those headed to PAX West will be next in line to meet her.
I am going to be honest here with this new creature for The Evil Within 2; it really did not do much in terms of fear for me. I would not want to run into it in any setting in the real world, but it feels like Tango Gameworks is relying on the bizarreness of many limbs being placed together to drive some fear as we have seen in The Evil Within already. Maybe this is a cultural thing that I just do not find particularly frightening, but so far, my money is more on the “normal” looking enemies in the game that have twisted minds and will be showing those off more than the easy scare the Guardian brings here. Hells, there was more tension in the slow walking around portions of the demo here with the hanging bodies than with the chase. Again, this could just be my messed up brain and what I find scary over things like this. We will find out in a little over a month I guess.
What do you think about the Gruesome, Giggling Guardian that we are going to see in The Evil Within 2 here? Do things like this drive the horror and fear for you or is more of an action sequence to break up the tension in the rest of the scene? Will you be out at PAX and giving this new section of the game a try or have you been too scared by this to give it a true chance? Let everyone know down in the comments and then feel free to discuss as well. There will be more for The Evil Within 2 and we will have it here for you. Be sure to keep checking back in here to keep up to date on all of it as it comes.
