A new crossover for World War Z: Aftermath is on the way with The Walking Dead and World War Z joining forces
It definitely feels as if it was a long-time coming, but we are finally getting that crossover from The Walking Dead and World War Z: Aftermath. It seems that the TV show just will never die at this point, and it is going to shamble on just a bit more with Saber Interactive bringing the IP into the long-running game. This feels like a crossover that should have happened a while ago, but fans still holding onto the World War Z game will be glad to see this DLC in January 2026, for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. If not the specific characters and IP, it will bring a little more to experience in the game at the very least. Just as all good DLC should do out there, instead of giving us just fancy cosmetic swaps to employ.
When this DLC is ready to expand out there in World War Z: Aftermath, it is going to offer up so many fun things from the TV show version of the IP. We will be getting three new chapters that take place in the Prison, Hospital, and Alexandria from the show. Along with that, we will have four new characters with Rick, Negan, Daryl, and Michonne joining the roster and bringing with them their iconic weapons to give us four new ones to play with. Even if it will be fun to see them using the weapons that we have had in World War Z from the start as well. Oh, and the extra fun of Rick and Daryl having actors voicing them in the chapters will be a nice touch. Something that will help to give us more hope as we face off with all of the undead and the new Zeke that will be coming in the DLC, too. A Spiked Walker, which will be impervious to melee attacks unless it is knocked prone. Not a great thing for Negan if I do say so.
World War Z: Aftermath — The Walking Dead DLC
Saber Interactive revealed that the next campaign DLC for World War Z: Aftermath, the best-selling co-op zombie shooter based on the blockbuster Paramount Pictures film, will take players to the terrifying world of AMC’s The Walking Dead. Experience a new battle for survival against the relentless undead in three new story chapters featuring some of the most legendary characters and locations from the iconic franchise. World War Z x The Walking Dead DLC will launch in January 2026 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Undead apocalypses collide like never before in World War Z x The Walking Dead DLC, a new campaign episode featuring three thrilling stories starring characters from AMC’s The Walking Dead – Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, Negan, and Michonne – with the voices of Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus reprising their fan-favorite characters. From the Prison to the Alexandria Safe Zone and Grady Memorial Hospital, you’ll fight to survive against new versions of World War Z’s infamous Zeke swarms inspired by The Walking Dead’s uniquely slower-moving but no less deadly Walkers.
World War Z x The Walking Dead DLC Features:
- Experience a new story campaign set in the world of AMC’s The Walking Dead
- Take on three new chapters: the Prison, Alexandria Safe Zone, and Grady Memorial Hospital
- Four playable survivors: Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, Michonne, and Negan
- Two new melee weapons: Michonne’s Katana and Negan’s Bat “Lucille”
- Two new weapon skins: Rick’s Revolver and Daryl’s Crossbow

- New special Zeke – Spiked Walkers: An even deadlier variant of Walker with tougher defenses that is impervious to melee until it’s been knocked prone. Force them to the ground with enough damage, then go in for a quick melee kill before it rises again!
Are you curious why it took so long for The Walking Dead and World War Z to have this crossover? Are you glad to see that the chapters will take us to some of the big, iconic locations from the show? Is it odd to only get two of the four coming back to voice their characters? How do you think the show would have changed if they had access to all of the items that we do in the game? Let’s all talk about this in the comment section a little lower down the page. We still don’t have a release date for this DLC, so expect at least one more update for World War Z: Aftermath in the near future. Just watch the site and all of our socials to see when that update lands out there, along with all of the others that we have to share each day.
