The Outlast Trials Will Have Us All Relapsing Into More Of The Therapy

The Outlast Trials — Project Relapse

Season three for The Outlast Trials is on the way and it looks like the Outlast universe is going to win out just a bit more

Well, if you thought escape from The Outlast Trials was going to be a thing, it looks like those thoughts need to be put to rest. Not only because the story of the game is placing us back in the mix of things, but because Red Barrels is bringing us all the third season of content for the game. Not just in the way of a new enforcer or more cosmetics to pick up and decorate with. No, we are getting something broader in The Outlast Trials in the way of being able to build our own trials to send others out to complete. All of which starts off on April 22nd for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. If you are ready to have more of the horror therapy pumped into your brains after all of it so far.

As it seems, if you did not play the most recent event in The Outlast Trials, Amelia’s escape plan did not go as planned at all. Not only was everyone rounded up, Amelia is now on display to remind us all why escape is bad, while also locking out that trial for a bit when the new season starts. It does sound like that will be temporary for those who want to go back in and try it, but for the rest we will have the new Trial Maker to make and fill with all kinds of threats and weirdness that only the world of Outlast can truly offer up. All so our reagents can keep getting to their rebirth number of 99 and have the option to reset to 1 if they so choose. Doing so will offer up a permanent upgrade to the reagent as they go through their next relapse in the mix. An upgrade that I am sure will help as we try to survive The Jaeger, who is out there and trying to add even more pain and suffering into our existence. Have a look at the tease for all of this just a little lower down now.

The Outlast Trials — Project Relapse

The Outlast Trials has teased Season 3 with a new cinematic trailer released today. Launching on April 22, the new chapter extinguishes all hope of future escape and promises a frightening new phase for Murkoff’s twisted experiments — players will devise their own trials, escape an unyielding new enemy, and try powerful new therapies.

Season 3: Project Relapse introduces The Jaeger, a lethal enforcer designed by Dr. Easterman to punish Reagents for their disobedience. A slow-moving, hyper-focused killer, the Jaeger is guided remotely and will stop at nothing until her assigned target is eliminated. As well, a new creative toolset, “Trial Maker,” will let players build, name, and share their own Trials using customized Variators, alongside a new story trial in the new Suburbs trial environment and two new MK-challenges. Season 3 is set to release as a free update for The Outlast Trials on Steam, Epic, PlayStation, and Xbox stores on April 22nd, 2025.

Amelia’s escape plan has been foiled, with the freedom fighter herself captured and displayed as a harrowing reminder of the cost of disloyalty. In response, Murkoff has ended Project Rebirth and implemented a new initiative in its place: a chance to begin again, to grow together, the way patients and their therapists should.

Enter the Relapse Initiative, only accessible to Reagents who have achieved a maximum therapy level of 99. In exchange for reverting their therapy level back to 1, these reagents will receive a permanent upgrade of their choosing alongside a host of other benefits and rewards.

To further bind his patients to their treatment, Murkoff has devised The Trial Maker — a means for Reagents to craft their own Trials to administer to their peers. The Trial Maker empowers each Reagent to devise their own unique combination of Trials, MK-Challenges and Variators, creating a gauntlet that tests their own ingenuity as well as the survival skills of their fellow patients.

The Season 3 Cinematic trailer also provides a glimpse of Henrietta, who is now known as the Jaeger — a valuable new member to the Experimental-Population, and an exemplar of resilience, dedication, and obedience. She’s guided by Murkoff via remote radio broadcasts, and hunts its assigned Reagent with a singular purpose. The Jaeger will not rest until its target is destroyed: should you find yourself in its path, evade at all costs.

The Season 3 update will arrive Tuesday, April 22nd, commencing the Relapse Initiative. As of 10am ET on that date, access to the Rebirth hallway will be closed off for an indefinite period of time. To serve as a grim reminder of the escape incident, Amelia is now displayed in the Sleep Room, and the Reborn counter itself has been concealed.

Did you really think there was going to be a chance to escape the world of Outlast here or would that have been a good option to allow for character re-rolls for free if we so did? How many more seasons do you think we will get for the game or will the Trial Maker be the thing that ends the bigger updates and just leans into adding more options for players to build the trials? Will The Jaeger truly be the most terrifying enforcer yet or will the slow nature of the character be something easy for us all to navigate around out there? Rush on down to the comment section to unleash all of those thoughts for us to discuss in the mix. We will have all that we can for The Outlast Trials up on the site for you, so please keep on checking in for all of that and everything else that we can find to offer up in the gaming sphere.
