A new co-op game, Split Fiction, has been announced and we will get to play in two different styles with Split Fiction when it comes
It looks like Hazelight Studios is ready to kick us all back in the co-op teeth again with the announcement we have for Split Fiction. The next title in their style of games that EA will be bringing to the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on March 6th of 2025. So, not that long of a wait to be able to play a game where only one player needs to own the core copy of it. Yes, Split Fiction is keeping to that setup that the studio’s other titles have gifted to the gaming world for quite a while now. So, let us dig into what is going on in the game while we figure out which of our friends will be buying the game and which will be co-op riding along with the fun it is going to hold.
Those not familiar with the style of game Split Fiction is, it will be a co-op action-adventure title that will require two players with each playing as one of the two leads. Those leads are aspiring writers who have opted to bring their visions to life using a new “AI” and “VR” system. Sadly, that system is designed to steal their ideas and after a little accident, they are both locked into their realities together. The bigger issue in Split Fiction with all of this is that one is a Sci-Fi writer and the other is a Fantasy writer. So, as we progress through the story, we will be shifted between two different worlds and writing styles along the way. A fun little twist to further highlight how different yet similar these strangers are out there. Have a look at the gameplay and see what will be on the way for us all to experience in just a few more months out there.
Split Fiction — Gameplay Reveal
Electronic Arts and Hazelight Studios revealed Split Fiction, an action-adventure game that pushes the boundaries of the co-op genre further than ever. Developed by Hazelight Studios, the imaginative minds behind the 2021 Game of the Year winner with more than 20 million units sold worldwide, It Takes Two, comes a unique co-op action-adventure split-screen game where players will jump between sci-fi and fantasy worlds. With a wide range of ever-changing abilities, players will take on the roles of Mio and Zoe as they work together to take back their creative legacies and discover the power of an unexpected friendship.
In Split Fiction, players will discover a variety of sci-fi and fantasy mechanics and abilities. Escape a sun that’s going supernova, challenge a monkey to a dance battle, try out some cool hoverboard tricks, fight an evil kitty, and ride everything from gravity bikes to a sandshark. With worlds that are entirely different from each other, surprising challenges await players at every turn.
Mio and Zoe are contrasting writers, one of sci-fi and the other of fantasy, who become trapped in their own stories after being hooked up to a machine designed to steal their creative ideas. Jumping back and forth between worlds, they’ll have to work together and master a variety of abilities in order to break free with their memories intact.
A Hazelight Studios staple feature, Friend’s Pass, which allows one player who owns the game to invite a friend to play for free, is back and pushed even further with crossplay options enabled for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via Steam.
Split Fiction releases on March 6, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and EA app.
It is interesting to see that Split Fiction is keeping with the changing gameplay mechanics along the way in the story. Where each level will have something vastly different to play with and a few of them will carry along between chapters. Not only that, but we will see a few other kinds of chapters in the mix that seem to have been written by others outside of this story. A fun and interesting twist on it all that has me excited to see what Split Fiction has to offer. Even if I am not a fan of the figurehead of the studio that everyone seems to be pining over. That is a me thing, though, and I know the writing teams, the art teams, and the designing teams are going to be truly shining in this one instead. How could they not with all of the freedom they could have while, effectively, making two different titles? That is what I am looking forward to out there, indeed.
Are you ready to jump into the worlds that Split Fiction is going to offer up or do you not like Sci-Fi or Fantasy out there? Will it truly feel like two different games in the mix or will it still all be the same with two different skins slapped over them? Will we see other writers in the mix of things and fall into some of those outlandish stories too? Take some time and write out some fun comments below then dive into all the discussion for it all. I know we will have more for Split Fiction soon, so please keep on coming back here to see and hear it all. It looks like it will be a wild ride and glad to see many other artists are getting a chance to spread their wings, even if the front human is a bit annoying and feels fake while promoting all of it along the way.
