Biomutant Slices Up With Some New Gameplay For The Upcoming Switch Version

Biomutant — Switch Gameplay

New gameplay for Biomutant on the Switch is here to give us a feeling for how Biomutant will look when docked

With Biomutant finally on the way to the Nintendo Switch this coming May 14th, it is time that we had a chance to see how it is going to look on the console. It is a little lacking in the power of some of the other consoles it landed on, but that was not something that discouraged Experiment 101 from doing it all. With that release quickly coming up and all that work put in, it is time for us to see just how it is going to leap over. At least if you are looking to play Biomutant when the system is docked to your TV and not in handheld mode. There is going to be a little bit of a shift between the two, but we will discuss that here in just a moment…

Here we get to see a bunch of different scenes in Biomutant all captured on the Switch that is docked to the TV. In this mode, we will be able to get the game and all of its DLC running at 1080p and at 30 FPS. If you opt to take the game on the go, you are going to be seeing it at 720p at 30 FPS, but given the size of the screen you will be playing on there, it does not feel like it is going to be that much of a difference. Especially when compared to the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Biomutant that originally launched and was how some of us had to play the game in the first place. Have a look and see how this holds up to the expectations out there.

Biomutant — Switch Gameplay

This unedited gameplay footage has been captured on Nintendo Switch in TV Mode (docked).

Biomutant is coming to Nintendo Switch on May 14, 2024.

The Nintendo Switch version includes the Mercenary DLC, supports gyro controls, and will run in two different modes:

  • TV Mode (docked): 1080p (with Dynamic Resolution) @ stable 30 FPS
  • Handheld Mode: 720p (with Dynamic Resolution) @ stable 30 FPS

So, there is one interesting thing I caught for this version of Biomutant when loading it up, it looks like it is running at 60 FPS in this gameplay and not at the 30 FPS that it is stated to do so. This could be a compression or encoding thing on the side of YouTube, but this is all pulled from the raw video THQ Nordic provided the world. A weird little discrepancy to take note of. Partially due to the fact that this also might not be the footage you will experience on the Switch when it comes to framerates. I am not saying there is anything shady going on for Biomutant here, but take all the above with a little salt so you are not surprised if the game runs a little slower and this was all altered in some way to get to the 60 FPS this version is not supposed to be able to do stably.

How do you think this port for Biomutant is looking and will it get many Switch players to give it a chance? Do you think the video issue here is on the side of YouTube or has the gameplay been doctored a bit to impress us all a little more? Can you even truly notice the framerates on your end or do you only see it when the gameplay is truly lacking out there? Head down to the comments to discuss those findings and more. If we have any other updates for Biomutant, it will be shared on the site for all. Please keep on checking in here to see and hear about all of those and the many other titles we have coming out along the way.
