Get ready to set sail with Captain Flint with the reveal of the upcoming turn-based title Flint: Treasure Of Oblivion
The fun of pirates and turn-based tactical titles are on the way once more with the reveal we have for Flint: Treasure Of Oblivion. This would be the upcoming title that Savage Level and Microids are working on for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A title that will place us back into some historically inspired gameplay along with Captain Flint as we take on the tasks of going turn-based with it all. A lot like we have seen with titles recently giving us a bit of a pirate theme and style. Those titles, though, seem to have sunk to the ocean floor and this one is heading right into the open waters that have been left behind. Let us dig into all of it now.
All of those basics we listed should give us all a solid idea of what Flint: Treasure Of Oblivion, but what is left out is a bit of the story and how it is going to be told. In the game, we will have all of the narration and scenes play out in a motion comic style that will mix in all of the historical dialogue and looks that we have grown to love over the years. All as we take up the role as part of Captain Flint’s crew and set out to do what pirates do. That being going on missions to pillage, steal, and sword fight along the way. All while using cards to call up the specific skills and actions each of the crew will have. That is another aspect, where we will need to select our crew perfectly to best fit the situations and get ready to level up along the way. Have a look and see a little of the gameplay we have in the mix.
Flint: Treasure Of Oblivion — Reveal
Microids and Savage Level proudly unveil Flint: Treasure Of Oblivion, set to be released in Q4 2024 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and unveil a first trailer giving a glimpse of the adventure that awaits players. Flint: Treasure Of Oblivion is the first game from Savage Level, a team of industry veterans founded in 2021, promising a gaming experience that combines a rich story with deep, accessible gameplay.
Prepare to embark alongside Captain Flint, his second-in-command Billy Bones, and his crew of old salts in search of a legendary treasure promising freedom and fortune. With its original narrative using traditional comic strips as a narrative medium, Flint: Treasure Of Oblivion invites players to immerse themselves in a historically accurate pirate adventure spiced up with fantasy.
Flint: Treasure Of Oblivion delivers adventure, but also strategic depth thanks to its turn-based combat mechanics, refreshing the genre’s foundations by drawing on mechanics from role-playing and board games, notably through dice rolls. When players build their crew, each member brings unique skills to use, allowing them to adapt their strategy to their style of gameplay. During the tactical phases, players can use skill and attribute cards to improve their crew members and gain an advantage over their opponents. Hoist the mainsail and set off to discover the secrets buried in the distant lands of Flint: Treasure Of Oblivion.
Flint: Treasure Of Oblivion Features:
- Turn-Based Tactical Combat: A good preparation is key! Choose your crew members with unique abilities, obtain new skills, and improve your dice. During the tactical phases, use cards to trigger skills and attributes and influence the fight with dice throws.
- Comic-Book Narrative: Enjoy a narrative that, beyond the usual codes of comics (onomatopoeia, speech bubbles), offers players original and dynamic comic strips.
- Exploration: Discover a magnificent world, from the French city of Saint-Malo to the exotic landscapes of Central America. Visit diverse environments (cities, camps, jungles, caves…) powered by Unreal Engine 5.
- Historically-Inspired Piracy World: The game faithfully recreates a world of piracy, incorporating historical elements (language, costumes, weapons) making the experience even more immersive.
I cannot look away and not see that Flint: Treasure Of Oblivion feels a bit like Shadow Gambit minus the supernatural elements. Some of the gameplay is a bit different, sure, but that is the vibe I am getting from all of this. This, if you have not been following along, is an amazing thing as I truly enjoyed the other title and wish that we would have had more for it before the studio shut down. Maybe Captain Flint and the crew will be able to fill that void and keep on going as many have been hoping to experience along the way. We are just getting the reveal and the game is slated to release before the end of the year, so there is a lot of room to impress and get us all excited to experience it all in full swashbuckling glory. Even if the true history is not as flamboyant as it is made out to be.
Will you be following along with the crew and Captain Flint in this adventure or is this not the kind of title you enjoy? How different will each of the crew truly be or will they all still fall into the same category along the way? Will the card system be changed for a different skill system down the line or will this be a way to keep it closer to the board game styles that help to inspire it all? Head down to the comments to discuss it all and give us all of those thoughts. We will share all that we can for Flint: Treasure Of Oblivion, so keep yourself up in the crow’s nest so you are able to spot when we offer up more to the world.
