A new entry into the Paranormal Activity IP is coming with a video game version of Paranormal Activity on the way
Those looking to get more of the Paranormal Activity IP out there, it looks as if we will have a new video game on the way to us all. A new video game coming from DarkStone Digital and DreadXP for all of the main platforms out there too. At least as it will all go in 2026 when the game is slated to get to us all out there. So, this is the most basic of announcements coming for a Paranormal Activity video game, but it is something on the way. It is coming from a team that has brought us some solid titles so far, so this should get us all a little more excited even if it is a very basic announcement of it all.
Most of what we have for the Paranormal Activity video game is listed above and the following trailer does not give us much more. It is being listed as a “found-footage” horror game, which fits the entire style of the IP up to now. If that will play out like we saw in the Resident Evil games or in another way, we will have to wait to see. Along with waiting to see how the “Haunt System” will function in the game as well. A system that will alter the level of the haunts based on how we play the game. I am guessing this will lean into things that the team learned making The Mortuary Assistant and how that shifted based on what we were doing and how we played too. Interesting and now we wait to see more.
Paranormal Activity — Game Reveal
DreadXP, DarkStone Digital, and Paramount Game Studios today announced plans to produce an all-new interactive game experience based on the blockbuster Paranormal Activity franchise. Known for hit titles such as The Mortuary Assistant, My Friendly Neighborhood, and the Dread X Collection series, DreadXP’s Paranormal Activity pairs the video game publisher’s expertise in crafting unique, unforgettable terrors with one of the biggest horror properties in the world.
DreadXP’s Paranormal Activity video game will bring the franchise’s groundbreaking found-footage style to horror enthusiasts in surprising new ways, immersing them in a story that expands upon the lore and world of the films. DreadXP co-director and creative director Brian Clarke (AKA DarkStone Digital), the developer of the acclaimed The Mortuary Assistant, leads the development of Paranormal Activity. The game will feature an advanced “Haunt System,” which will dynamically alter the types and intensity of scares players will encounter based on their actions.
What began as an indie sensation in 2007 became a global horror phenomenon as the original Paranormal Activity terrified audiences around the world and reimagined the “found footage” genre for a whole new generation. The seven chilling films in the franchise, brought to the screen by producers Blumhouse and Solana Films, have earned more than $800 million at the worldwide box office.
The Paranormal Activity video game is slated for release in 2026 across multiple platforms. Additional details will be announced by publisher DreadXP at a later date.
I was under the impression that the Paranormal Activity IP had its run and most would have moved on from it all. It made a huge splash when it did drop the first time, but then quickly fell off as they tried to force new reasons for the footage of the story to be found. Maybe this will take us in a different direction of things and only slightly use the entities that were brought up in the Paranormal Activity films, but this feels like it will be closer tied to the films than anything. I just hope it is not a retelling of the original film but in a video game format. We have two years to wait and see, though, so maybe the team will come up with some fun and new ideas along the way.
Did you think that the Paranormal Activity IP was more or less done with or is it about time we saw it make the jump in the video game space? How do you think the found footage part will function or will it just be the device on how we can keep coming back in the game for the most part? Could this be a whole new story in the mix of it all or will it lean into all of the other stories more than anything to keep that all rolling? Head into the comment section to discuss all of this and everything else that we have to share with you out there. We will have more for Paranormal Activity as it does flow out there, so please keep on coming back to us all for that and much more.
