A new developer video for Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy offers up some insight to the new Guardians character designs we have
It looks like we have answers to one of the burning questions that some may have had for Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy; why are the character designs so different from what we have seen over the recent years? The short answer is that this is Eidos-Montréal’s version of it all and they should be able to make their game without needing to stick to the fan head cannon out there. We also have a longer answer too, and that dives a bit more into the process and thoughts behind each of the Guardians out there beyond making them look cool. Things like storytelling through the design to help inform the character more without the need for lengthy exposition. Something that gets lost along the way when it comes to games like this, in my opinion.
To better help with all of this, we have a new developer video that discusses each of the individual Guardians and how they came to their current look. Like the fact that Star Lord’s look and the name is based on his favorite 80s band and relics from the era. Drax’s tattoos have a bit more of a meaning to his culture and how each ring is an indication of his victories. Even Groot has some fun extras we do not normally get in the Guardians comics and films too with Rocket adding things to his friend to help him survive a bit longer in the mix of things. It is an interesting take to have on it all and maybe we can appreciate it all a bit more now that we have had it painted before our eyes better. I know I am enjoying the fresh take on them all, even if the easier way to go is that they are just variants out there…
Oh, and if you watch closely, we also get a small look at another of the Guardians that we know out there. Mantis makes a quick appearance in the mix with some magenta skin also. I am sure that is going to rub some of the fans out there the wrong way too, but I am all for the developers being able to be as creative to tell their stories as possible. Keep up the great work and I cannot wait to see the next major update for the Guardians as we head toward October 26th.

Are you feeling better about the character designs for the Guardians here now or are you going to stick to the live-action versions only? What part do you think Mantis will play in the game and will it be more than just some exposition for the characters? Do you normally catch the story in the costumes and designs that people have or is that normally lost on you too? Let us all know down in the comments and then feel free to discuss it all if you so wish to. There will be more for Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, obviously, and we will keep sharing all that we can along the way. Just be sure to keep checking in for all of that and everything else that we might have on the site for you.
