A new Stargate title is coming with the announcement that Stargate: Timekeepers will be taking some of the story into an RTS setting
It looks like one more crack at the IP is coming with the latest announcement for Stargate: Timekeepers. Yes, we have more building into the IP and story with Creative Forge Games taking a swing to see if they can do what many others out there have not been able to do. That is to give us a solid Stargate video game that does not seem like a cash grab for the diehard fans that have been following for so long. It sounds like a massive undertaking, but this one will be an RTS on the PC that has a slight advantage to it all. That advantage is that it will take place in a story set between season seven and eight of SG-1. What that could mean is up to any of those diehard fans to try to figure out. The rest of us can just hope for a fun RTS title.
Sadly, that is about all we have for Stargate: Timekeepers besides the following teaser for the game. It only shows a nice build-up to the title of the game and not much else, so do not get too excited before you press play. There will be some kind of time element to the story and game too, if the title did not give that away already. My guess is that it will be used to make sure the story stays lined up for those fans out there while offering a whole lot of other experiences along the way that the normal TV viewers will never get to know unless they take that long, dark walk down the path to becoming a gamer. Not that we are all not already in the same boat already with the sci-fi elements the show normally has.
Stargate: Timekeepers — Teaser
In collaboration with leading entertainment company Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM), Slitherine, a world-leading producer and publisher of digital strategy games, is proud to announce that it will develop and publish Stargate: Timekeepers, the first-ever strategy PC game based on the fan-favorite series, Stargate SG-1. Stargate: Timekeepers departs from the end of season 7 of the Stargate SG-1 main plot to create a wholly original story starting during the Battle of Antarctica, where Command Eva McCain and her team are tasked with supporting the SG-1 against Anubis’s fleet. The aftermath of the battle sees Commander McCain and her squad face an epic adventure that spans multiple original locations.
In Stargate: Timekeepers, players will travel through time and space, save civilians from the threats of their system lords, rescue their friends and allies from danger, and much more.
Could this be the Stargate title that brings it all back for us or do you fear it will be much like the others over the years? Do you think that time will be used to make sure the story for the show is never messed up or will it be something bigger than expected? How do you think this will all work as an RTS and will it have enough content to flesh it out all of the way here? Let us all know down in the comments and then feel free to discuss it all if you so wish to do that. We will keep checking back on Stargate: Timekeepers to see what we can find. As soon as we have more, we will share it here for you to take in and try to figure things out for yourself.
