Souldead Is Exploding Out There With Some Fast-Paced Action

Souldead — Announcement

A new fast-paced shooter, Souldead, is coming to us with Souldead taking the best inspirations from gaming past

If you are a fan of titles like DOOM or Quake in the past, then you will be excited to see that we have another title coming in the way of Souldead. This is a new title coming from Heathen Software that looks like it is using all of the well-worked mechanics from those other titles to give us one more explosive title to play. A highly action-oriented FPS title for the PC that might come before the end of the year, but since this is the first for Souldead out there, that could be something we have to wait a bit further for. No matter the case, let us dive into just what we will be experiencing in the game once we dive into all of the fun. Fun being something that does look like this title will have in spades.

In Souldead, we will be playing as an unnamed and undead necromancer in a fantasy world overrun by demons. We have been buried and dead for 200 years now and it is time to put this cult down before they finally reach their end goal of raising a demon lord. From there, we will take our guns, magic, and other skills to platform through the world and bring the pain to all of those demons out there. Most of which, if there was not a cosmetic shift for Souldead, looks and feels just like the gameplay for the most recent DOOM. Not a bad thing at all, but worth noting for those that fell in love with that title and wanted more but in a different world. Have a look at the announcement for it all just below and get ready to wait just a bit longer to see what it will truly hold out there.

Souldead — Announcement

Souldead is a newly announced game produced by Polish studio Heathen Software. Instead of combining various game genres, Souldead focuses on being an excellent FPS.

Souldead is a fast-paced, action-oriented FPS game. Its primary focus is on speed, dynamism, and unique mechanics.

Apart from such classics as DOOM or Quake, it’s a spiritual successor to games such as Hexen 2, Heretic, Blood, Serious Sam, or Painkiller. Souldead is presenting good visuals and puts much pressure on the FPS experience.

The player gets a large arsenal of weapons, very different from other FPS games. The in-game levels are also quite diverse. Thanks to dark magic, our hero can use such abilities as double jumps, dash, and shooting a magical, demonic shotgun that is sucking mana to create shells.

The game starts in a dark fantasy world devoured by demons. Our journey will cover different regions, for example, Fantasy World and Victorian England, to finally rest at peace.

Our main hero is a nameless, undead necromancer who was burned, tortured, and buried alive 200 years ago. As a result of cultists trying to resurrect their lord – Sil’thur – our evil hero wakes up and starts to seek revenge. During gameplay, our hero meets Sil’thur, who starts to eat parts of his soul. The player fights his way to the final battle of the first location, where he fights Sil’thur and beats him – that’s where he opens a magical portal and runs away, with the player chasing him.

Why is Souldead different?

  • It’s redefining the FPS genre – currently, every game tries to focus on dialogues and cutscenes – and the players are left without a good-looking title that they can play ad-hoc, save when they want, and come back later. Some players are purely into action, and these are the ones we’re aiming for.
  • We try to avoid reloading the system in the game so that the player can focus on the action.
  • Unique enemies – for example, one of the demons has a unique ability. When the player looks at him, he turns to stone and is invincible. To kill the demon, you can’t look at him. Instead, use explosions or try to hit him while he’s turning to stone (~0.5 seconds).
  • Every location will have its own set of standard weapons, unique weapons, and enemies.
  • The telekinesis system allows players to pick up and throw parts of the scene. This will enable the player to make different strategies (you can throw a barrel at a demon who is invulnerable to magic).
  • The player will be able to press buttons and pull levers – this will allow us to create some logical puzzles.
  • The game is designed to be played horizontally and vertically – the player can grab onto walls, jump to distant places, teleport to a different area, and dash while in the air.

How do you feel about Souldead as we see here? Do you think it is too much of a clone of the other titles or will the team use the mechanics that worked for other titles and give us all a new experience? How long do you think we are going to have to wait to experience the game and do you think it is going to hit an Early Access state along the way first? Let us all know down in the comments and then feel free to discuss it all if you so wish. More for Souldead should be on the way, so please keep an eye on our site and socials to stay as up-to-date as possible. We are always trying to fight off our own demons here and this is one more good reason to keep up the good fight.
