Screenshots For The Resident Evil 2 Remake Show Off Some New Features

Resident Evil 2 Remake — Zombies

Some new screenshots for the Resident Evil 2 Remake have found their way online and show off some of the new changes coming to Resident Evil 2 soon

We have a few new screenshots for the Resident Evil 2 Remake to take in here as we wait for all of those previews to come out before the rumored demo of the game drops before January 25th. Normally this would be nothing major to talk about and there would be more filler than anything, but along with these shots also comes a bit more information on just how Capcom is shaking things up for this game in the long run. That is if you have not already just jumped down to take a look at them. Nonetheless, we have new things to look at for this Resident Evil 2 version and it looks like we may be playing as more than just Leon and Claire.

All of this seems to come from an early preview for the Resident Evil 2 Remake that was online and has been pulled back down. Most likely due to the timing of the publishing going off at the wrong time, but this is the internet age and things were captured before that happened. On top of the screenshots here, we also have word that there will be a new creature added into the mix of the game, a new look at how Mr. X will play out, and also the fact that we will be able to play as Sherry and Ada in the game for a few little extras. All to make sure this does not feel exactly like the Resident Evil 2 we know, but also set in a game that captured the hearts of so many.

New Creature

Resident Evil is, and always should be, shlock horror and that’s certainly how it’s presented in terms of gameplay. From the gun shop Leon makes his way to the sewers and an encounter with both a giant alligator and a new creature that looks like a mini-William Birkin with the same sort of grotesque mutated eye.

Playable Ada

Capcom has already said that the majority of the game will follow the same design, including enemies, as the original, but there’s a clear attempt to try and make things slightly more… if not realistic, then at least plausible. At this point you switch control to Ada, who we’re appalled to find out, after emptying half a dozen bullets into a zombie’s face, is armed with a useless little peashooter that’s only good for staggering them for a second.

Mr. X

Mr. X is incredibly slow but the best you can hope to do is make him pause for a few seconds, and even that takes so much ammo it’s not really worth it. Instead you’re left to deal with the fact that he’s constantly following you, his heavy footsteps always audible, and if you get yourself stuck in a dead end you’re in serious trouble.

Playable Sherry

Our demo ends when we find all the electronic parts and the game switches to a cut scene showing Sherry’s captor (we’re trying not to spoil things if you don’t know who it is). This is apparently a brand new playable section, not in the original game, where you get to play as Sherry in an area called the Orphanage. But we’re only allowed a second’s glimpse before the controls are wrestled away from us.

It does sound like the bit where we get to play as Ada in the Resident Evil 2 Remake is a bit rocky. This does not bode well for the portion that was not completely seen in the demo for Sherry. I am a fan of seeing that we are getting more in the game than before, but this does not make it sound like Capcom has done it in the best way. This is also based on the opinions of a now unpublished article, so all of this could be off base. The screenshots do tell a pretty solid story on their own though, so we will just need to wait until we get to give it all a go or when the Resident Evil 2 Remake actually drops for us all out there. I will try to wait until then to form a final opinion.

What do you have to say about all of this for the Resident Evil 2 Remake here? Are you glad to see some other features and characters getting a spotlight in the game or were you hoping for a shot-for-shot remake at the end of the day? How do you think the Sherry portion will play out and will it be a basic stealth mission kind of thing that we saw in RE4? Let us all know down in the comments and then feel free to discuss. For more on the Resident Evil 2 Remake, though, be sure to keep checking in here. We will keep all of these updates coming at you as fast as we can.
