Return To Monkey Island Has Fired Off Some New Gameplay To Experience

Return To Monkey Island — Gameplay Reveal

Get ready to Return To Monkey Island with some new gameplay to show off just what we have been missing from Monkey Island up to now

We have had the announcement that Return To Monkey Island is on the way from Terrible Toybox and Devolver Digital for the PC and Switch. This has made a whole lot of gamers out there happy to see where this point-and-click title is finally going to go after all of this time. Since there has been a long wait for it all, though, there have been some thoughts on how things will be brought forward from the last title in the Monkey Island line up to now. This is why it is nice to finally have some true gameplay to look at and get more of us all excited to see how it will go down.

As it all stands, it looks like the core gameplay for Return To Monkey Island is going to be about the same, but it is hard to tell from this bit here. We do not get to see how any of the basics will work and more of the aftermath on how the movements will play out. Unless the team has learned how to perfectly obfuscate the basics to give us the cinematic look and feel more than a video game. My guess is that it is more on the side of video editing to make it more exciting for us instead of showing how we will point and click around in Monkey Island once again. Have a look at the gameplay we do have and see if it is going to line up with how you are feeling about the game thus far.

Return To Monkey Island — Gameplay Reveal

Set sail this year on Nintendo Switch and PC.

Return To Monkey Island is an unexpected, thrilling return of series creator Ron Gilbert that continues the story of the legendary adventure games The Secret Of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge developed in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games.

It’s been many years since Guybrush Threepwood was last locked in a battle of wits with his nemesis, the zombie pirate LeChuck. His true love, Elaine Marley, has turned her focus away from governing and Guybrush himself is adrift and unfulfilled, having never found the Secret Of Monkey Island. Hip, young pirate leaders led by Captain Madison have shuffled the old guard from power, Melee Island has taken a turn for the worse, and famed businessman Stan has been imprisoned for ‘marketing-related crimes’.

Banter with old friends and new faces on familiar islands now under dangerous new leadership. Then, take to the high seas and explore the new and unknown as you work your way out of tough predicaments. Clever puzzles, bizarre situations, and devastating ripostes are all that stand between Guybrush and glory.

Does all of this line up with what you remember from Monkey Island so far or does it feel like a deviation to you? Will this be more cinematic when all is said and done or is it all how the video is edited here? What are you hoping to see in the final build of this game and will it all work well on the currently announced platforms? Let us all know down in the comments what you are thinking and then feel free to discuss it all for yourself. When we have more to share for Return To Monkey Island, know that we will share it all here for you. All you need to do is keep checking back in on the site for all of that and much, much more.
