Marvel & Square Enix Have Partnered To Bring Many Games Starting With The Avengers

The Avengers Project — Announcement Trailer

A new partnership has been announced and we are getting a new Avengers game from Marvel & Square Enix that will tell an original Avengers story in the vast universe

There were some nice teases over the last few days on a new announcement coming from Marvel and Square Enix with a lot of speculation aimed at a “Marvel World” being in Kingdom Hearts III being the big news. It looks like all of that is completely wrong as now we know that it was all to announce the two giant’s partnership and that we will be getting a full on video game for The Avengers sometime in the near-ish future. 2018 seems to be the year thrown around here but that doesn’t stop it the excitement as there will be a nice big and flashy new Avengers game to be played out there in the mix of all of the other Marvel titles also on the way this year and the next.

Square Enix will not be the direct developer of The Avengers game here though as it looks like Crystal Dynamics is being tapped to head up development with Eidos-Montréal there to help collaborate on it all. Looking at the two developer’s most recent successful titles out there it could be safe to assume this will be an action RPG of some sorts where we will get to help ‘Reassemble’ The Avengers somehow through our actions. Of course that is all speculated based on the below trailer and what the developers are known for as we have no further information on this new title outside of that. It looks like it will be some time before we get more real information as well so for now we speculate.

The Avengers Project — Announcement Trailer

Marvel Entertainment and Square Enix today announced a new multi-year, multi-game licensing agreement to develop and publish original games based on beloved Marvel Super Heroes, beginning with The Avengers. This newly established partnership pairs the creative minds at Marvel and Square Enix for one of the most powerful alliances in interactive entertainment. The first blockbuster game is being crafted by Crystal Dynamics, developers of the award winning Tomb Raider series, in collaboration with Eidos-Montréal, the home of the critically acclaimed and award-winning Deus Ex game series.

The Avengers Project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come. More details on The Avengers Project and other games will be announced in 2018

It is interesting to note that this partnership is also listed as a multi-year and multi-game set up here for Square. This could be read as we are going to see multiple Avengers titles as we press forward and the games get made. I’d like to look at it as we are only hearing about The Avengers for now and we may get to see a whole plethora of other IPs, characters, and universes mixed in under this agreement. There are so many possibilities and seeing as we are going to get multiple games it would be a little odd to have them all focus in on one group due to the film franchises. Then again, Telltale, Capcom, and Insomniac Games already have the other major film and TV IPs locked down for now.

Was The Avengers the announcement you thought was going to come out today or did you have your hopes set on something else? Do you think that we will see a blending of Tomb Raider and Deus Ex in this new Marvel title or will the developers work outside of what they do well? What other games do you think we will see from this partnership has it presses forward and the games sell well? Let us know all of your thoughts on this down in the comments and then discuss. As more on The Avengers is revealed, we will have it up on the site here. Although it looks like it may be some amount of time before that happens again as 2018 is still what all the developers are saying for anything at this point.
