Captivate ’08

Capcom’s Gamer Day

Alright, so, I wasn’t able to make it to this years Capcom convention. A little upset since it took place in my home city. It was an extremely closed group of the press and 5 lucky Capcom fans that got to go in and check everything out that Capcom has coming up. I’m a little let down I didn’t go, but I have the stories to share with ya.

The guys at one of the best Game sites, Kotaku.com, has all the stuff we want. Here we go.

Resident Evil 5

So they had a playable version of the game there. Burns me more I couldn’t get in. But from what they report, it sounds like it will be just as good, and most likely better than, Resident Evil 4. Which is good. That was a great game with a great story and gameplay mechanics. At least from my POV.

The game play of the game is exactly like that of RE4. Over the shoulder camera, Quick time events, similar enemies Changed of course for the new part of the story. The major difference is the visuals. There are a few more images below showing off how well the game looks on the 360 version of the game. They look to be leaps and bounds above RE4’s Game Cube-esc graphics. Including what sounds like a phenomenal particle generator for explosions.

Still nothing to report on the co-op mode of the game as well as not much to discuss on the dark portions of the game. I guess they only had the day time, well lit areas of the game. But so far, first impressions are good. Lets hope it stays this way.

Street Fighter IV

Looks like there will be another few reasons to pick up the Console and PC version of this game. Mainly because there is a few things left out of the Arcade version that will be placed in the Home versions. As well as actual full animated endings for characters that beat there way all the way to the top. I guess in the Arcade version, you only get still frames to tell the ending of the winning character, but in the home version, you will get a full animation. Images of what I would assume to be Ryu’s is are below.

What is left out you may be thinking? Well two characters, non named yet, will make it exclusively to the home versions of the game. So there is that for one. Then there is also bonus levels that would just seem stupid to add to an arcade machine, but a nice extra for having at home. Think the destroy stuff level from earlier versions of the franchise.

Spyborgs

Not too much to say about this other than it was an officially announced game at the convention. It’s an exclusive for the Wii and looks to be like a very funny game. I mean, Banjo Playing Fish. You read it. Banjo Playing Fish. But that isn’t the premise of the game. It’s just something in the video.

It looks like an action platfromer where you play a team of odd ball characters to do something. Save the world I am assuming. But it has a full on death machine, with an attitude…sort of. Also looks like there is a DJ mister fix it to boot. Feel free to check it out, video and release on the link below.

Bionic Commando

So here are some shots of the new iteration of this game. It looks visually stunning. At least to me it does. I’m also glad to see the three dimensional world over the two dimensional one for this franchise. From the sounds of it, it works out better this way as well. Gods I wish I was able to play it at the convention. But alas.

The only thing that kind of detracts from it is that there are a few issues with the combat system in the game. Most likely due to the fact that this is an early version of the game, so it should be fixed. If it is, it could be quite interesting to go through the game snatching up enemies with the claw while popping a few rounds into the surrounding rest of the world. It also seems that you can pick up and throw loads of stuff as well with the arm. So this could be quite cool.

Dark Void

As written on Kotaku.com, It’s Crimson Skies with on-foot combat. I’ve actually never played that game, so I really have no opinion on what is going on here as of yet. The game does look visually pretty cool. Not sure how I feel about the story of the game. But in any instance, here’s a few shots and a link for more info for those who know what this is all about. Like the hokey pokey.
