Resident Evil Village Has Finally Been Confirmed As A Thing

The next title in the Resident Evil franchise has been announced and the ever-rumored Resident Evil Village is going to be that title

We can finally put most of those rumors to bed, as Resident Evil Village is officially announced and heading to the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2021. This would be the eighth full title, even if the numbering is a bit obfuscated, to come to the franchise from Capcom and now we can see what part of those rumors were true or false. Having been able to play a very early slice of Resident Evil Village a while back, I am glad to see what has made it into the game and what might have been left on the floor. That is all a discussion for another time, as we will focus on just what we are getting here in the franchise next year. It seems so far off, but my fingers are crossed for an early 2021 release as we have seen with the past few titles.

In any instance, we are heading back to the characters of Resident Evil 7 here with a bit of a twist. It is a bit in the future from those events with Ethan and Mia moving on as best as they can. Chris is back and it looks like there is a lot of horrible stuff to come along with that with the inclusion of the new enemies that many have been mistaking for werewolves. Something they are not but just a different outcome from the various bioweapons in the Resident Evil franchise. It is an easy thing to see here. Especially with the return to an Eastern European setting that evokes many of those folk horrors and legends in our minds. We cannot fault anyone for going down those paths of logic here. I know I can see how just having the rumors could lead to that here.

We are also going back to the first-person view of it all to further evoke the horrors of Resident Evil 7 here. Something that makes sense given that we are back in this realm. There is no word on if we will see some of the side stories retold through various tapes or playbacks, but it does look like they are going in the path of a deeper story than just escaping, so it is possible. Especially when you look at how this is feeling like a mashup between Resident Evil 4 and 7 when all is said and done. I know I cannot wait to see more, or even be able to talk about what I’ve seen already now that the game is officially announced out there.

Resident Evil Village — Announcement

On PlayStation’s Future of Gaming digital event, Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, announced Resident Evil Village, the eighth entry in the best-selling Resident Evil series. The all-new title is currently in development using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, which was used to create vivid gameplay experiences in hit titles such as Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Devil May Cry 5. RE Engine paired with next-generation console technology will elevate the survival horror experience in Resident Evil Village to new heights, as the title will showcase the most realistic and terrifying graphics to date. Resident Evil Village is scheduled for a 2021 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Steam.

In the debut cinematic trailer released today, Capcom revealed a glimpse of the evocative new setting and storyline of Resident Evil Village. Set a few years after the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 7 biohazard, the all-new storyline begins with Ethan and his wife Mia living peacefully in a new location, free from their past nightmares. Just as they are building their new life together, tragedy befalls them once again. Chris Redfield, the legendary hero from the Resident Evil series who made a brief appearance in Resident Evil 7 biohazard, is reacquainted with the couple and horribly disrupts their life, leaving Ethan devastated and thrown into an entirely new nightmare.

The first-person action in Resident Evil Village begins when players assume the role of a distraught and shattered Ethan as he seeks to uncover the mysterious new horrors that plague a once peaceful village. Throughout this terrifying journey, players will fight for every breath as they are hunted by vicious new enemies that have infested the snow-capped locale. Channeling the capabilities of next-generation consoles, the detailed realism and relentless feeling of fear will increase with each desperate battle for survival, while moments of calm will leave players wondering what new horrors await.

Did you have high hopes that we would see this Resident Evil title announced out there or was it a bit of a surprise? Did it all give you the same RE4 feel or will that still need to be seen down the road? Are you still going to see werewolf and vampire here besides the infected? Let us and the world know what you are thinking down in the comments and then feel free to discuss it all. We will definitely be keeping our eyes out for more on Resident Evil Village and we will add it all to the site as we get it. Be sure to keep checking in here for all of that and much more now that we have the various announcements flowing.
