Nintendo Switch’s Digitally Downloaded Titles Are Already Too Big

Nintendo Switch — First Look

The download sizes for a few of the Nintendo Switch titles at launch have been revealed and one can’t be saved to the Nintendo Switch without upgrade

Hopefully you didn’t plan on housing all or many of your Nintendo Switch titles digitally on the console directly out of the box as some of the upcoming title’s download sizes have been revealed and it doesn’t look good. With only 32GB of internal storage at launch, many gamers were already upset and wondering how many titles they could store without needing the cartridges that the physical versions will bring with them. Well, today we have a look at those sizes and it looks like the answer to how many titles the Nintendo Switch will be able to hold without any upgrade is…not that many.

In fact, the recent reveal of some of the digital titles coming to the Nintendo Switch actually shows that there is already one title that won’t be able to even be housed on the native internal memory as its size is 32GB already. That would require nothing else, including the Switch OS to be on the system to be able to even hold this game. Let alone when you look at the other sizes, you’d be lucky to have more than three of the bigger names stored digitally only. It looks like all of those concerns back at launch we indeed warranted. Have a look at the most recent revelations for the digital versions of these titles.

Nintendo Switch Digital Download Sizes

  • The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild — 13.4 GB
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe — 7 GB
  • Snipperclips: Cut It Out, Together! — 1.60 GB
  • Disgaea 5 — 5.92 GB
  • Puyo Puyo Tetris — 1.09 GB
  • I Am Setsuna — 1.40 GB
  • Dragon Quest Heroes I+II — 32 GB
  • Nobunaga’s Ambition — 5 GB

The one saving grace here for the Nintendo Switch is the fact that it has been confirmed that it supports the use of Micro SDXC cards to further expand the memory. If you are willing to drop an extra $140 USD, the best price I could find on a quick search, you can expand it all up another 256GB and then easily house the entire launch line up, but that drastically alters the price of the system to that and more than its competition. It has also been confirmed that these cards can expand the Nintendo Switch up to another 2TB but given that the cost for these cards will only add to the bottom line of the whole system, would you really be willing to do this?

Granted, all of this is based on having your Switch library be 100% digital and no need for the physical versions of the games. There will still be the option to pick up your titles in the cartridge format that we’ve also seen announced but that does limit a bit more on the system’s travel capabilities. That is unless you are looking to cart around another case filled with your Nintendo Switch games so you can be sure to have them everywhere you go. I’m going to guess that we will see an upgraded model in the long run to handle all of this, but this is how it all lays for now. Spend more to go digital or handle a lot of physical items.

How does this affect your want to purchase the Nintendo Switch out of the gate here? Will you be willing to purchase more storage space or will you just suck it up and go physical with it all? Do you think that we will see a version of the system that has more internal storage by this holiday or is that just wishful thinking? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments and then discuss. As we learn more on the Nintendo Switch and how it will expand, we will bring it here to you. Keep yourself locked into the site so you don’t miss out on a single tidbit of information.
