Insomnia: The Ark — Legendary Developers React

The dieselpunk RPG, Insomnia: The Ark, has a set release date now and we can expect to be playing Insomnia: The Ark before then end of September

We have a final release date for Insomnia: The Ark set down for us now and we can all expect to be able to play the game on September 27th now. That is not that far out for this new Dieselpunk, Sci-Fi RPG that Studio Mono has put together with HeroCraft. I am sure there are reasons for this, but this now places Insomnia: The Ark, a smaller title, well up against many larger titles that will be flowing out here over the course of the coming weeks. On the plus side, it will be hitting the PC only at this point so it will not need to truly compete with all of the console specific titles that share the same month of release.

To go with this new release date announcement for Insomnia: The Ark, we also do not have anything too new to look at for the game. You can see it in motion just below in one of the more recent gameplay trailers. You can also get a feel for the minds behind Insomnia: The Ark here as we also have a little joke video that comes with the announcement “showing” how some of the industry’s greats are feeling about the game. Have a look at it all and see if you will be shelling out your cash any time soon; or will be waiting until your backlog clears up a bit more.

Insomnia: The Ark — Remember The Exodus

Publisher HeroCraft and developer Studio Mono have announced that their upcoming dieselpunk RPG, Insomnia: The Ark, will launch for PC via Steam on 27 September.

The labor-of-love RPG — in development for more than eight years at ten-person Studio Mono in Samara, Russia — will feature more than 60 hours of content, as players explore a colossal space metropolis brimming with the secrets of a long-gone civilization.

Players will explore more than 70 unique locations, populated by 250 key characters uttering over 200,000 words of dialogue. The epic story can be completed alongside four NPC companions, and there will be 12 different endings at which the player can arrive, depending on their choices throughout the game.

Following a successful closed beta phase over the summer which helped inform final tweaks and improvements, HeroCraft and Studio Mono are ready to unleash the title — eagerly awaited within roleplaying circles — on the world. And what’s more, the game will continue to be supported post-launch, with additional content and features to be added via free DLC.

Insomnia: The Ark is a dieselpunk sci-fi RPG about the slowly degrading remnants of human society attempting to survive on an abandoned space metropolis. Players will develop their character, explore lovingly handcrafted locations, interact with peculiar NPCs and factions, and try to stay alive in this brutal world.

Welcome to Object 6 — a colossal space station set on a dismal 400-year journey in search of a new home. Your character wakes from cryogenic sleep — stricken with a rare psychological disease and unknowingly holding humanity’s last hope in his bare hands…

Do you think it was a poor choice to release during this specific time of the year or will it fair well given that it is a PC only title with a very niche target audience? Have I just been out of the loop on this one from the start or is it another instance of a smaller title getting lost in the mix? Let us all know down in the comments and then feel free to discuss.
