A recent job posting for a known Call Of Duty developer points that there may be single-player back in the next Call Of Duty title

The next Call Of Duty title has not even fully been revealed or launched yet and we are already looking toward the next possible one. At least the next one coming from Infinity Ward in terms of if we will see single-player make its way back into the franchise. Again, we have yet to see how a Call Of Duty title will go without a solid campaign mode as it looks like Black Ops IIII is going to be the first outing that Activision will be going with here on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Nonetheless, it looks like speculation on the next title having a campaign mode again has started to pop up again.

This all comes from a recent job posting that popped up on Infinity Ward‘s site and points toward their next Call Of Duty title. The job posting being that of a Narrative Scripter that requires an understanding of both multiplayer and single-player designs. Mix that in with the fact that the job generally revolves around writing a good story for vocal performers to give us all, it seems likely to be the case and that Call Of Duty: Black Ops IIII may have been just a test to see how removing it could go. Then again, this could all be speculation and just a way for the team to try and get a story mixed into a multiplayer setting.

Narrative Scripter

Come work with the game industry’s brightest on a new, exciting, unannounced title for multiple next gen platforms.

In this hands-on role, you’ll collaborate with scripters, sound designers, writers, and directors to implement voice-over performances in-game across a wide variety of player experiences — from combat to set-pieces.

Qualifications:

  • A cinematic ear for dialogue pacing.
  • A strong desire to bring life to game characters through naturalistic and cinematic implementation of vocal performance.
  • A broad understanding of both multiplayer and single player game design.

We can speculate all we want for now, but we do know that the next Call Of Duty in October will be forgoing the usual campaign mode many have become accustomed to. I know it was one of my favorite parts of the franchise, but it also does not make the money that Activision it always looking for. That is where the multiplayer and DLC kicks in as the campaign is usually a one-and-done experience. Unless you are one of those collectors who love finding all of the hidden intel in your Call Of Duty games. We are a rare breed and it is not what the publisher is looking to cater to.

Do you think this is a good sign that the next Call Of Duty will have a normal campaign or could the team be working on something else? Could it all be for a promotional campaign for the next title and not linked to single-player at all? Could all of this be a test to see what will be the next big winning format for the franchise and we are just throwing money out there anyways?
