Agony Is Here & Sadly Part Are Still Being Barred By Censorship

Agony — Fractal Gameplay

The release of Agony is here and with it comes a new trailer and a statement on the ongoing censorship issues for Agony

The day is finally here and Agony has hit the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. All of us fans out there can finally take a few steps into the Hellscape that Madmind Studios has for us here for the game and see just how Hellish it could be at the end of the day. I have held on to all of those horrible lines for too long and needed to get them out there. Now that Agony has released, I feel it is high time to do so and also high time to have a little bit of a look at more gameplay to help others figure out if they are going to give the game a go here. I know I am fully ready for it.

This is, sadly, not all of the news and updates we have for Agony here today. We just wanted to start it all out with something nice and a good look at just how we will be rolling through Hell to get to our main goal. Have a look at some of the new gameplay here and see just what Agony has housed for us right now. Then we will get into the side of things you may not be too happy about for the game.

Agony — Fractal Gameplay

Agony features a full-fledged story mode as well as an open challenge system that randomly generates levels for players to explore and survive to gain new Highscores. In addition to featuring in countless “Most anticipated Horror Games 2018” lists, the Kickstarter financed title is set to challenge players with its brutal and malevolent environments. Agony throws players in the midst of Hell where they strive to stay alive and solve the riddle behind the mysterious Red Goddess; architect of this place of sorrow and pain, and the sole entity with knowledge of how escape… but there is more to the story than it seems. Haunted by nightmare creatures, players gain the ability to possess demons and other souls to find their way out of Hell.

Agony — Launch Gameplay

As it turns out, it looks like those old censorship issues are popping up again as now it looks like we will not be able to get the full vision of Agony now. Not that it will ruin the experience or the game at all, but it looks like some of the visuals for the game had to be clipped and will not be getting patched back in to make the PC version an AO title. There are a few things that did get to make it back in, but a few scenes had to be dropped due to this issue and other legal issues that could crop up if Agony contained them. I am not too sure how having graphic content in a game could do that unless it breaks other laws. Something that could not be the case as the scenes in question will be uploaded to so fans can “compare” the scenes. If they were of that level of graphic nature even uploading them would cause the legal issues. I am no lawyer though.

Dear Agony Fans,

After many consultations and hard work full of trials and errors, we have two pieces of news for you.

Firstly, we have managed to include a lot of things that we originally wanted to provide in the patch in the final game. It has been accepted by PEGI and other rating companies. The censorship now affects only several seconds from two endings (out of seven) and some scenes that may be unlocked only after the end of the game. We will be able to show them to you in a video that we are planning to release soon.

Secondly, due to legal issues, we are not going to be able to release the Adult Only patch. However, that content does not affect the game in any significant way because the deleted material that was supposed to be added in the latest version of the patch is from two endings (out of seven) and some scenes that may be unlocked only after the end of the game. We are going to publish a comparison video on May 30th, 2018 so you will not miss out anything.

Please bear in mind that leaving this content uncensored would result in the game being banned and us, Madmind Studio, being sued. That would simply lead to the studio being closed. Obviously, we don’t want this to happen and we hope that you understand it.

Agony is still the game we have planned all along and we are very proud of what we have achieved.

Enjoy pursuing the Red Goddess in Hell!

Madmind Studios

Are you fully ready to find the Red Goddess in Agony or will you be waiting a bit until all of the kinks get ironed out? What kind of legal issues do you think would be coming to Madmind if they did release a patch to include all of those scenes? Do you think it will truly matter in the end as fans will make a “supercut” anyways and upload the fully uncensored version at some point? Let us all know down in the comments and then feel free to discuss. If there is more to Agony after launch here, we will have it here on the site for you. Just be sure to keep coming back to see and experience it all.
